Drafts work if you want cannon fodder. In a modern army with high tech weapons, it takes more intelligent people to operate those weapons than what we would get from a draft. A draft would degrade our ability to wage war.

Different kind of deal fighting 3rd world rag heads vs what could be a multi polar war with a military that can no longer rely on it's traditional recruiting base to fill the ranks. You'll have to coerce ppl. from this country to fight in that kind of conflict.

If it hit the fan now, we'd have to rely mostly on technology and weapons. And discussing how to use them would get stalled in Congress which mens the President would have do another police action.

Those three were not declared wars.
The USA hasn't been in a declared war since WWII.
