And I'm by no means insinuating you're making anything up. Didn't want my posts to be construed that way.
Thanks for the insight on all this. Morbid but fascinating stuff

I am suggesting the "banging" supposedly heard every 30 minutes was made up for ratings.

No doubt. Still, an impressive press conference.

As usual, TexAgs has been the best source for updates during a major news event!
During a press conference, Rear Adm. John Mauger of the U.S. Coast Guard announced that the debris found is "consistent with the catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber," and that the families of the five passengers aboard the #Titan submersible have been informed. pic.twitter.com/b2ZyHnLhhy

This reminds of how K-219 was located. We (the US) knew when and had a pretty good idea where to look to locate the sub. I think on Tuesday there was a USN liaison at one of the briefings. I wouldn't be terribly surprised to find out in some years from now that some USN asset heard this and that information was passed along with stipulations like "you can't say where this came from but look in this area."Philip J Fry said:Ag_07 said:

Not knowing BQ personally, but I'm sure the CG didn't spill any classified when they contacted them. Certain they didn't say how they had that information. That said, no need to give the media any clues that leads to more questions.
only Stockton Rush is not part of the "WE" club. Everyone else did think about safety.TheEternalPessimist said:
Seems like the entire deep sea submersible industry is going to have to review every safety protocol and review designs going forward.
I took it for granted that we had developed these tools for exploration in the deep -- without giving much thought to the danger associated with it. Think it would be fair to compare the level of danger here to the same level of danger going to space presents.
RIP to those lost.

The Columbians on the drug sub that the coast guard boarded while it was moving a few years ago would disagree about them not being in the military. That was awesome

Yep that was my take away. The question from the reporter was asking if the response time played a part in the result of the rescue mission and implosion. His answer was basically saying they didn't hear anything because it happened before they started listening.

If they're banging on the hull why aren't they banging a specific pattern/rhythm that would make it impossible to be an underwater anomaly. Tap out SOS in Morse Code or "shave and a haircut".
