Pretty much everything I need to put this story to bed.

We have dissected "why" this happen over the last couple days. Nothing put out will shock me anymore.

Well, the only thing I want to know more about is the delay on Ocean Gate's part from the distress signal to the next day

Yep that was my take away. The question from the reporter was asking if the response time played a part in the result of the rescue mission and implosion. His answer was basically saying they didn't hear anything because it happened before they started listening.

This reminds of how K-219 was located. We (the US) knew when and had a pretty good idea where to look to locate the sub. I think on Tuesday there was a USN liaison at one of the briefings. I wouldn't be terribly surprised to find out in some years from now that some USN asset heard this and that information was passed along with stipulations like "you can't say where this came from but look in this area."

I know our best and brightest don't usually end up in journalism, but why can't those guys shouting questions at the admiral understand that there are no bodies to recover? He did a pretty good job of dancing around it without just coming out and saying it.
