Strange behavior considering Trump is up a billion points, right?
Doesn't sound like boos in these tweets
He got a blend of boos and cheers, just depends on which video you watch. People have strong feelings on both sides about him. Same moment from a different angle.
I mean he shows up at the biggest rivalry game in the state played at night. Of course people are fired up. It's not some outpouring of love for Trump. Some people certainly feel that way but he keeps doing more of these types of events, kind of like UFC, to make it look like the rallies he used to have. It's all marketing.
People aren't showing up to see him at his rallies in the numbers like they used to so he needs to have the perception of his popularity. Trump's folks are sticking with the same refrain: Trump is beloved! The Primaries are over before votes are cast! Give Trump all your money!
At the same time you have rumors Trump may be pulling out of Iowa in spite of being up by a billion points. The folks on the ground there are seeing a very different picture. Trump is going out of his way to attack Reynolds and Vander Plaats because they endorsed DeSantis. Those are the 2 most influential Republicans in the state and both have serious ground game operations. It's one thing to attack DeSantis but it is something else to go after people that are well known and liked in that state. Those folks are also very smart political operatives who know their credibility is now tied to DeSantis. They didn't do that casually, they did it because they think he can win. They are now also just as invested in him winning as he is because of the way Trump has reacted, they need him to win so they will do everything they can to make that happen.
So it's going to go one of 3 ways. First, Trump wins Iowa comfortably and the DeSantis campaign falls apart. Trump cruises to the nomination. Second, it's very tight in Iowa and one or the other wins. That favors Trump still but it does put a major hole in his inevitability argument and we have a real race. Third, DeSantis wins decisively. If that happens Trump is in serious trouble because his aura of inevitability and how he is beloved is crushed.
I could see any of those 3 things happening and I'm fully prepared for it to be the first option. Certainly hoping for the 3rd though. We will find out in about 50 days.
