Trump and his band of misfits started the scorched earth approach. DeSantis & team never mentioned Trump before the announcement. The Desantis team has actually shown a lot of restraint responding to the baseless accusations.

All they need to do is let Trump keep talking. He'll **** himself.
Except it won't drive off one of his base. They eat this stuff up because it is the #1 reason they love/worship him.

In their mind, talking **** online is proof of how "tough"he is and how he will be tough on the deep state when he wins the election.

All it will do is ensure a 1932 disaster for the Republicans if he is the nominee.
Depends on what "base" you are talking about. The hardcore, Trump is God base is maybe 10-15%. Most of the rest of Trump's support likes DeSantis as well but they just know Trump better or haven't felt they need to change but most of them don't have a signed Trump hat in glass casing at the front of their house to go with the commemorative knives they bought.

Most Trump folks can be flipped. The next big challenge for DeSantis honestly is going to be selling his economic chops. He's focused on the Woke stuff which is great but he needs both, people can't just see him as purely a guy who cares about social issues. Good news is he has a great resume on economic issues.
You know, I'm with you kinda, but I still remember 2016. I have used the Idiocracy court room comparison repeatedly because I remember watching Ted Cruz offer to rationally discuss issues with intelligence and experience and try to reason with them, and this is the image that sticks with me:

Oh I remember that all too well and how frustrated I was as a Cruz guy. Those folks are still no more than 10-15% now though. Trump isn't the fresh face anymore. DeSantis is also much better at this than Cruz was and he is hitting back hard.

Florida's unemployment rate is 2.6% it's lower today than any point during Trump presidency so DeSantis can make the argument despite Biden, Florida is kicking ass more than when Trump was president.

I hate these shallow arguments but available to him.

Yep. Sadly no matter how many more incoherent lies he posts, there are still people on here who will defend this.

None of this crap he puts out on Untruth Social are meant to get him any new votes.

It is about feeding red meat to his cult which believes DeSantis is worse than Biden, Obama, Soros, Schwab, combined.

Ehhh, he couldn't just put out a simple "Happy Memorial Day, we remember all who sacrificed" kind of post?

Why the need to put in the stuff about fighting Marxist pigs, etc in this post? Oh that's right, Trump's nothing more than a showman/salesman who constantly has to keep keep his fans riled up and distracted by anger so they don't have time to do some critical thinking and potentially see what a joke he really is.

The man doesn't have a genuine bone in his body.

I think you're right, but my guess is that the number of hardcore Trumpers is higher, maybe 25-30%. Still, I'd bet that if DeStantis can pull it together, he could essentially win the nomination in a cakewalk. The rest of the candidates would need to drop out early (Kind of like the Dems in 2020), and he will need a more coherent message about the direction he wants to take the country. I'm a big supporter, but being just the anti-woke candidate probably won't pull it off, and I was surprised to see that there aren't ANY policy positions on his "DeSantis for President" website.

That's almost certainly by design. It's a long campaign and they need news cycles. I would expect they are going to slowly roll out each part of the platform with specifics so they can have days or weeks of focus on different issues. There has been nothing about the DeSantis campaign that has been done without planning.

FWIW I think the weakspot for DeSantis right now is laying out a coherent message on the economy. I think his positions are all there but he hasn't stressed them and articulated it yet. He needs to hit Biden's economy hard and show how he has a different path and what that looks like. If he can convince people he can be just as good if not better than Trump on that he will win because that more than anything is keeping some Trump folks on board. They remember the Trump economy prior to Covid and they feel confident he will deliver that again. DeSantis has to show he can do the same.

I'll certainly agree that Barnes has been hit and miss in his analysis these last few years. I occasionally listen to him when he is on someone else's stream but if he says something intriguing, I do my own research.

When it comes to politics, my opinion is that he is not near the insider he thinks he is. He's a John Dean type of character.

He's gone from edgy and sometimes interesting to full on loon. Baris has done the same thing as a pollster. It's like they just live in Truth Social and Free Republic and think that is the world. Of course the reality is they are almost certainly selling out their reputations to just pump up Trump nonstop.

Charlie Kirk is about a half step behind them which is a bummer as I like Kirk. Listened to his mailbag this morning for instance and he was once again talking about how we need to stop the primary fight and unify (behind Trump of course) because it is pointless. He talked about how we need to put in machinery and ground forces in place (which only DeSantis is doing and bigtime but of course Kirk doesn't mention that). Then he talks about how Tim Scott will never beat Trump and never mentions DeSantis' name at all as though Scott is the real threat to Trump but of course he isn't. Worse than that he starts going off on Woke issues and how we need to stand up to corporations and just leaves the elephant in the room alone. It's so obvious Kirk has sold out and it's sad. You can be for Trump and still recognize that DeSantis exists and that he has good ideas as well.

When Trump eventually loses these folks will have destroyed any future career.

If DeSantis wins the primary, I'd love to see someone do a deep-dive on Trump grifter industrial complex. It stretches across quite the variety of people and groups, from online influencers (DCDraino types) to evangelical pseudo-prophets who's "prophecies" somehow always benefit Trump.

The Biden Dept. of Injustice probably has a large team already looking into it for some kind of campaign law violation.

Have to give DeSantis credit for thinking ahead here.

Quote:

DeSantis nominated Sasso and four others to their spots on the CFTOD board in February, taking another significant step in his planned reformation of Walt Disney World's special governing district as the state's reaction became more realized, in part, for Disney's criticism of Florida's "Parental Rights in Education" law. …
Quote:

Sasso, managing partner of the Sasso & Sasso law firm in Winter Park, also serves on the Sixth District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission, the Public Employees Relations Commission and as a trustee of Valencia State College, according to Gov. Ron DeSantis' press office.

DeSantis on Tuesday appointed Meridith Sasso, Michael Sasso's wife and chief judge at the Florida Sixth District Court of Appeal in Lakeland, to the Florida Supreme Court. There has been no connection made between this and Michael Sasso's resignation from the CFTOD board.
Quote:

[Media outlets are reporting this as a mystery, but it looks pretty clear to me. Disney and DeSantis' office are locked in lawsuits that will very obviously go all the way to the state Supreme Court (and likely that other SCOTUS too). If Sasso is on the board through which those lawsuits pass, then it sets up a conflict of interest with Judge Sasso when she takes her seat on the state's highest court. DeSantis can find another appointee for the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District board. Ed]

Kirk has always been a grifter that plays fast and loose with the truth. He grabbed onto Trump early and is milking that ride as long as he can.

Honestly, with regards to policy positions, this is where RDS really shine IMHO. He understands how to work within the system to beat it at its own game. He seems to understand how the legislative branch works and constantly be moving whatever pieces he's allowed to - on the executive side - to the benefit of legislation he / Florida needs. That's much more important that simply using executive orders or "owning" liberals on Twitter. YMMV.

That's because DeSantis is a lawyer and can read the landscape on how the federal and state suits are shaping up. State suit is critical to support Disney's federal suit and that is a question of state law and not federal law. So if Disney loses that state suit (as appears likely) it will go up on appeal to state supreme court first before the federal suit really gets started.

Strategy, there.
