Two cheerleaders shot after accidentally getting into wrong car

I did this once.
We owned a greed Ford Focus 2002. Around 2003, my wife and I got into our car, we sat in and my key did not work to start the car. Then I looked around, everything looked different inside.
I was sitting in someone else's car!
We got out quickly.

Of course, not Texas, so no kooks to shoot you for that.

ETX is honestly starting to scare me a bit as someone who may be trigger happy. He has tried to justify every shooting recently, and has erroneously tried to apply the law to support himself over and over in very unreasonable ways.

Based off details available at this point this is a bad bad shoot.
Second, where did I defend this shooting? I said people need to be accountable for their actions and parents need to teach their children to be situationally aware.
And that the shooter was an idiot.
If you're not defending it to some extent, you're obfuscating the issue to try to turn this away from the guy who fired the gun to focusing on the actions of the girls (and their parents!)

As has been described in this thread, it is "common" for people to get into or try to get into the wrong car. It happens a ton. Our parents didn't fail us all nor do we all lack common sense. Mistakes happen.

If your point is to defend gun rights/gun ownership, you're not doing that any favors trying to cook up defenses to bad shots or trying to muddy the waters as you're doing here. Promote and protect the responsible use of guns by calling out irresponsible use of guns, full stop.

We are going to lose our access to guns because of a small minority of idiots who can't handle them.
That's how society works. We only move as fast as our slowest runners. There's a reason you can't drink and drive. Or need prescriptions for drugs. We all should be capable of knowing our limits and respecting them but the actions of a few necessitate the restriction for all.

I am not defending a idiot shooting into a car full of people who aren't threat. It dumb, he's going to jail.

I am saying teach your kids to be aware of what's going on and not to do dumb*****

The law in the state of Texas is not on the side of people who get into other peoples cars, enter their businesses, or walk into peoples houses. Teach your kids that. Note: this does not apply in this case as the girls had retreated and were no longer a threat.

Depraved acts of violence usually do not make sense.

She mistakenly woke him up, he got pissed and started shooting. That is the most likely scenario. He didn't feel threatened, don't anyone try to sell that line!

I am all for free will and all but parents letting HS students drive to and from Woodlands arriving at midnight?!? These parents will play 'what if' games for rest of their lives. I hope both GSW victims pull through.

very sad state of affairs

are you boys serious that you have actually opened a door and gotten into the wrong car before?!

were you completely falling over drunk?
A few years ago I parked my truck, and was running into a doctor's appointment when I realized I had left some documents in my truck. I ran back to get them and was trying to open the passenger side door when I realized there was someone sitting in the drivers seat. It was then that I realized the he had just pulled in next to my truck. Same make, model, and color. So yes, it can happen easily.
I may have to grow old, but I don't have to grow up!

You're right, she actually looks black or part black (which is black, according to America) upon closer review. Making the shooter super duper extra racist with cheese. Oh wait, he's a cholo thug, he can't be racist. Only whites can.

Texas doesn't require retreat. The person gets back into a car and then rolls the window down. How is the driver of the other car to know you didn't go back to the car to get a weapon because you realized the car was occupied? Then you roll the window down. Yeah...bad sequence of events.

No 25 year old chilling in his car in the HEB parking lot is looking to shoot and maim some HS kids out of malice. They started this sequnce by not paying attention which vehicle was theirs.

Idiotic.

They were teenage girls. Who the F opens fire on teenage girls in cheerleading outfits?

Someone who is always situationally aware.

They were cheerleaders....come on now. The owner of the gun should have been more situationally aware.

I believe that was sarcasm you were responding to.

Thanks for posting. Rectifies a bunch of dumb comments.

Prayers she recovers fully and is able to return to what she clearly loves doing.

Some other details not considered yet. Since she was not driving there is 66%+ chance she was on the passenger side of the car dropping her off. The driver of the car dropping off likely pulled up to the wrong car with her side to the driver side. They could have been yapping and she jumped out and grabbed the handle of the drivers door but the shooter was in the passenger seat. Had he been in the drivers seat this is likely avoided.

For him to get out of the passenger seat and pursue a fleeing kid is well beyond protecting what is not even likely his and or a self defense case no chance. Had he been in the driver seat she opens the door and at same time reaches for cell phone in pocket or purse different story.

Again prayers for her complete recovery.

A few years back our company had a conference, we all flew in from out of town, so many of us we couldn't all stay in the same hotel. After the meetings a few co workers wanted to go out for drinks, said they'd pick me up. Described their rental car. Few minutes later a vehicle just like they described pulled up beneath the hotel awning. I jumped in. A huge dude was sitting in the driver's seat snorting lines. I quickly apologized, said it appears I am in the wrong car. He locked the door, no my man, you are in the RIGHT car. I manually unlocked the door, jumped out. My actual ride had just pulled up, I jumped into their vehicle and said let's jet out of here
Sounds like you narrowly avoided a gay hammer fight

Saw that they have a gofundme for "medical expenses". So they can afford to send her off to expensive gyms around he country, a jordan collection, etc but not health insurance?

It wasn't set up by her family but by the Cheer group.

This should be charged as 2 counts of attempted murder. I'm all for gun rights. Those rights come with responsibility.

Unrelated to the shooting, maybe other than recovery, but she was born with one lung. And was still able to do competitive cheer.

And while undoubtedly it is highly athletic, I still can't call cheer a "sport".

I think so. The article reads like the girls were shot after trying to drive off with the car. Doesn't sound like a drunk kid getting in the wrong car but a failed car-jacking.

The article was poorly written. Midway through it states that:
Quote:

And so they tried to speed off and he shot his gun, like five times or so into the car.

Only later in the article does is state that the girls got out of the suspect's car before jumping back into their own vehicle but I had quit reading at that point.
