Right in the wake of the homeowner shooting the woman who turned into the wrong driveway and another homeowner shooting a kid knocking on the wrong door. Shooter has been arrested.

This one hits really close, because I've definitely gotten into the wrong car on accident before.

Very sad story.

Though reading that is tragic, I'm not entirely sure the driver isn't justified in his actions.

12:15AM someone opens your car door unannounced in a HEB parking lot. Sees you and immediately turns around and back into another vehicle. Then you roll down the window as he approaches to confront you on the matter...

This just seems like a bad sequence of events as of now more than malice.

I did this a few weeks ago in Odessa. Opened a guy's truck door and he was sitting there talking on the phone. I apologized and thanked him for not shooting me.

The difference here is him shooting at the car while it's trying to leave. You can defend your property as long as it's in danger. When the assailant is fleeing, you can't continue to gun them down.

It's not just a bad sequence of events.

This is where the encounter should have ended. Getting out of the car, walking over, and then shooting blindly is an act of malice.

Texas doesn't require retreat. The person gets back into a car and then rolls the window down. How is the driver of the other car to know you didn't go back to the car to get a weapon because you realized the car was occupied? Then you roll the window down. Yeah...bad sequence of events.

No 25 year old chilling in his car in the HEB parking lot is looking to shoot and maim some HS kids out of malice. They started this sequnce by not paying attention which vehicle was theirs.

How is it justified to follow them to their car and then shoot them after they walked away from you? No threat, and now he's the instigator.

Dude is a lunatic who probably fantasized about having an opportunity to shoot people. And I fear there are many people just like him.

Why does this cheerleading practice end at midnight, on a school night, for girls that have a 30 minute drive back into Austin. Why did some of the girls park at HEB and not the gym? Elgin isn't that dense so where parking should be a problem at the gym.

I believe the gym was in The Woodlands, these girls just met at that HEB in Elgin to carpool. They were on their way back from practice that night. Which is also why they were there so late.

They practice in the Woodlands. They meet in Elgin from a few different areas of Austin, then carpool in one car to the practice facility in the Woodlands.

Pretty easy to do in the dark if you own a common-model car. As a kid, my mother and I actually unlocked and got into a Volvo that was the same color and model. It was only when the car didn't start that we realized we were in the wrong vehicle.

"Information suggests that an altercation occurred in the parking lot of H-E-B, and multiple shots were fired into a vehicle," police said. Two of the vehicle's occupants were struck by gunfire, with one victim sustaining serious injuries and transported by helicopter to a hospital, where they were listed in critical condition, police said.

A suspect identified as Pedro Tello Rodriguez Jr., 25, was taken into custody and charged with deadly conduct, a third-degree felony, police said.
----------------------------------
One of the girls accidentally tried to get into the wrong car, Shearer said. That's when, she said, a "guy got out and they saw that he had a gun. And so they tried to speed off and he shot his gun, like five times or so into the car." Woodlands Elite did not immediately respond to an overnight request for comment. The Elgin Police Department also did not immediately respond to an overnight request from NBC News seeking to confirm these details.

According to ABC News, Heather Roth, a cheerleader with the Woodlands Elite, said in an Instagram Live post that she was the one who got out of her friend's car and opened the door of another vehicle she thought was her own, only to notice a man was in the passenger seat. She said she got out of the car and back into her friend's vehicle, the report said.

Roth reportedly said the man approached their vehicle and she rolled down a window to apologize. That's when the man started shooting, she said, according to ABC News. The Instagram Live post was no longer available early Wednesday, but Roth shared a number of posts that appeared to be related to the incident. She did not immediately respond to overnight request for comment.

Justified to shoot into another vehicle that was leaving?
Sounds like this dude was up to no good and needed to eliminate witnesses.

Pedro Tello Rodriguez Jr is 25

Also how far they will travel. Had a cousin that played select soccer in the Dallas area growing up, and there was a girl on her team who lived in Africa during the off season, and the mom would fly her over to the US during the season.

Woodlands is a big cheer and gymnastics center in Texas. Similar to Allen. You typically see at least one Olympic gymnasts coming from one of these areas every 4 years.

I have use the previous two, and I will use this in addition to speaking to my children. You need to be aware of your surroundings. You need to know what is going on. You cannot lollygag and do whatever you want because there is a real threat in this world. Especially as you grow older, and you become what appears to be more malicious.

All three of them were also preventable if young people had been using a little common sense and self awareness.

Because they were competing at a very high level and it's competition season? My daughters are in gymnastics and there's not really anything in the Austin area that really compares to what you can find in Houston. If you want Olympic level coaching, you have to go to Houston.

I understand what you are trying to say, but I think there is a better way to phrase it.

Just like with sexual assault, it's never the victims fault for that happening to them. It's the person who pulled the trigger. However, just because it's not your fault doesn't mean that you can lower your probability or risk of things like this happening to you.
