Please join us in prayer. What are you monitoring? They're dead! Children -- they're dead. When I pick up my 6-and 11-year-old grandkids at school, when I'm here at home, on the way it goes through my mind that I hope they're gonna be okay. And most of you in this room, when we were in school, we worried if Nancy would dance with us on Friday after the football game or something. That was our anxiety.

"But they're gonna cloak all this stuff in the myth of the Second Amendment, the freedom. You know, it's just a myth. It's a joke. It's just a game they play. I mean that's freedom. Is it freedom for kids to go to school and try to socialize and try to learn and be scared to death that they might die that day?

"But Ted Cruz will fix it, 'cause he is gonna double the number of cops in the schools. That's what he wants to do. Well, that'll create a great environment. Is that freedom? Or is it freedom to have a congressman who can make a postcard with all his family holding rifles, including an AR-15 or whatever. Is that cool? Is that like street cred for a Republican? That's freedom? That's more important than protecting the kids? I don't get it.

You know, the greed of the gun lobbies and the manufacturers is obvious. We all know that. Money talks, but the cowardice and the selfishness of the legislators who are so scared to death of being primaried and losing their job, losing their power, losing their salary.

"You'd like to get each one of 'em in a room just one by one and say, 'What's more important to you? If you could vote for some good gun safety laws that most of the public agrees to, would you do that if it saved one kid?
Or is your job and your money so important to you that you would say, screw the kid? What's, what's in your mind?'

"And I think about when, when does change happen in this country? I mean, can you imagine what John Lewis would be thinking right now it, if he saw this? I can't even imagine what would come out of his mouth. You remember Kent State? Kent State helped us turn against the Vietnam War, which was a big lie, when you saw those kids get killed in Kent State.

"And then you see the little girl running down the street during the Vietnam War with napalm on her back, burning with napalm running down. And that's when people got excited. That's when it was real for people.

"It's not real for us unless you've had a young person get slaughtered because of the inaction of cowardly legislators who are selfish. And then, you know, civil rights, there's, 'Black people are having a problem. Whoa, whoa, whoa. When white people saw the dogs and the hoses spread all over TV, public opinion changed, 'cause they saw it. Public opinion changed when Mrs. Till opened that coffin so everybody could see what happened to her kid. People paid attention when that cop had his knee on George Floyd's neck and people who were probably oblivious now [thought], 'Holy ***** Is that's what's going on? Is that what we have?"

"So what will it take? Do we have to show it? Do we have to show that classroom? That's a pretty big step, right? That's just gross to think about. But do we need to show it, like the girl run with Napalm on her back? So they actually see that these parents couldn't even tell if it was their kid, that they had to go the DNA route. Will that wake up Josh Hawley, so he won't be running like this [raises his right fist] to the whatever they were,
insurrectionists? I don't know what the next word would be.

"You know, these people, they think we're stupid -- Republican and Democratic alike. But they might be right, because they get away with that crap. They tell us things about prayers and you know, their offices are monitoring this stuff, like I said. Get away from me. Stop all the bull***** Stop talking down to us. We're not stupid, but they will do it to keep their jobs.

"And here's our kids. And those two black guys in Tennessee, eloquent as they were, get expelled because they wanted to help the kids get gun legislation. We got a problem, we got a problem. Because that, that's not a country that you can be proud of. And you know we're a laughingstock already, incapable of taking care of our own. People in other places shake their heads, in other countries. 'What the hell is going on there?'

"So that's why I asked if anybody has a gun in here. I'm glad to know that the metal detectors are there. I think those are the same metal detectors that some of the Republican legislators wanted to avoid, right? They wanted to walk around them. They didn't want to go through those. God help us all."
