DeSantis needs to find an off ramp for this crap and focus on getting elected; I know it's red meat for some (including many on this board) but it comes across as petty and a waste of time.
First off, he absolutely is looking for a compromise with Disney and would take one even if he won't openly ask for it publicly. It's pretty easy to read between the lines though. You negotiate from a position of strength though now weakness.

Second, even if he didn't feel this was a fight worth going the distance on politically he has to. Any sign of quitting will backfire on him huge. He needs the W and in the fight is worth more than making it go away. Beyond that the polling is very much with him and it actually has crossover appeal. A lot of folks like to see someone stand up to a giant corporation with power and put them in their place.

Beyond all of that he literally had a law passed. It's not like he can just let Disney have their little fiefdom back.

BTW, DeSantis is putting up so many W's on so many other issues I am getting harassed for posting just some of them. His new immigration bill is freaking outstanding for instance. He's got double Trump's money in the bank and he has got his organization coming together. Underestimate him if you want but the man has a plan and he is executing it.
The latest Ipsos poll for this is nearly 2-to-1 in favor of Disney.

It's all in how the question is asked. Very easy to bias the sample and the reality is very, very few people are following this closely. Poll last week was 56% against. In the end though all that people will remember is who wins and loses in the end and DeSantis is in the much stronger position from that perspective.

It's such a strange thing though how you just really want Disney to win this. Do you favor trans education for small children? Do you think companies should be able to do and say whatever they want and the People should have no recourse against them? I mean they are not some innocent little business here, they are one of the largest companies in the country that literally OWNS multiple media outlets in ABC and ESPN to name a few and your argument is that they "Don't have a right to free speech".

I see this as a freedom of speech violation against Disney. I see DeSantis as a bully with authoritarian tendencies. I do not think this person should be President.

I realize the reasons I dislike him are the same reasons most in here do like him. That's why we will never see eye to eye.

So who is your choice? Trump or Biden? I mean neither of them would ever act in an authoritarian manner by running on an issue and getting the Legislature to pass it. They would just issue and EO and not care in the slightest about the law.

I'm a never trumper. I see him as a bully too. I honestly don't see much difference between trump and DeSantis at theirs cores. One happens to be more effective and the other is a blow hard, but I see them both as variations on the same theme.

Prior to trump I've voted straight R my whole life. But I've been thinking about it the last couple of days and I really probably can't call myself a Republican anymore if this is what it is, now. I'll refer to myself as a centrist or an independent.

I am not miserable at all. But to be perfectly honest, I really don't care how I come off to people of low to no values/morals and mediocre intelligence.

You're not a conservative. You don't care about conservatives values. You are the quintessential limp wristed virtue signalling CM leftist. You are trying to paint yourself as a previous conservative to paint a false narrative of the "meanness" of conservatives. But everyone sees u for what you are.

Lol, it's the Dems that have changed radically in the last 20 years. They've swung to the hard left.

The Republican agenda is essentially the same. If anything, it's softened some to the middle. But not to the right. It only seems further right because the Dems have swung hard left.

When bully is listed as the first concern I know this isn't about politics and it's all about feelings. The reality by any objective measure points to the people on the left being anti free speech. Regardless, it isn't really a viable decision maker because BOTH sides are for limiting free speech. To use that as justification to not vote R is to simply say you agree with the restriction of free speech from the side you agree with.

Back on topic. Disney has had an almost 60 year run with the Reedy Creek Improvement district (essentially running their own County). I've got no problem with Desantis trying to let the people govern versus a pathetic corporation.

It will upset the apple cart for sure. Will Florida still maintain that 1 billion in tax revenue they get?
What about all the other such improvement districts? Get rid of them to?
You mean the ones that are not the same as Reedy Creek?

Maybe...are they going to actively try to politically change legislation?
Doesnt matter if they do. That's a protected right.
No it's not. It's a political act that benefits one corporation more than other other corporations.

You obviously don't understand what protected rights are...
Here we go again... Yes, Disney has the constitutional right to object to the new law, and even to try to have it rolled back.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

So if a company has first amendment rights (it does), that includes the right to affect legislation.
Hey cool. Another example that you don't understand Citizen's United.
Then go ahead and correct me. Let's see if you get it right.
You're also allowed to inform yourself..
Sure. But you made the claim. The onus is on you to back it up or else the claim is worthless.
YOU ****ing brought up Citizens United NUMEROUS times as if you DECLARING IT made it some kind of valid point.

Hint...it's not, even if you want to keep screaming it into the void...
Did the Supreme Court not essentially grant the corporations have free speech? Is Disney doing anything more than exercising that right?
Again...you don't understaned Citizen's United. Go look up what it allowed corporations to do...

Hint...it's not the carte blanche you seem to think it is...
