DeSantis needs to find an off ramp for this crap and focus on getting elected; I know it's red meat for some (including many on this board) but it comes across as petty and a waste of time.
First off, he absolutely is looking for a compromise with Disney and would take one even if he won't openly ask for it publicly. It's pretty easy to read between the lines though. You negotiate from a position of strength though now weakness.
Second, even if he didn't feel this was a fight worth going the distance on politically he has to. Any sign of quitting will backfire on him huge. He needs the W and in the fight is worth more than making it go away. Beyond that the polling is very much with him and it actually has crossover appeal. A lot of folks like to see someone stand up to a giant corporation with power and put them in their place.
Beyond all of that he literally had a law passed. It's not like he can just let Disney have their little fiefdom back.
BTW, DeSantis is putting up so many W's on so many other issues I am getting harassed for posting just some of them. His new immigration bill is freaking outstanding for instance. He's got double Trump's money in the bank and he has got his organization coming together. Underestimate him if you want but the man has a plan and he is executing it.
The latest Ipsos poll for this is nearly 2-to-1 in favor of Disney.
It's all in how the question is asked. Very easy to bias the sample and the reality is very, very few people are following this closely. Poll last week was 56% against. In the end though all that people will remember is who wins and loses in the end and DeSantis is in the much stronger position from that perspective.
It's such a strange thing though how you just really want Disney to win this. Do you favor trans education for small children? Do you think companies should be able to do and say whatever they want and the People should have no recourse against them? I mean they are not some innocent little business here, they are one of the largest companies in the country that literally OWNS multiple media outlets in ABC and ESPN to name a few and your argument is that they "Don't have a right to free speech".
