Another heartbreaking tragedy in our country. I kinda know how we got here, but how in the heck do we stop this stuff ?

I'm pessimistic that anything will change, no matter how many kids die. How can we make it harder for idiots to get guns but keep guns a right to buy and own for good people ? If someone can answer that... they will be a true hero.

All I do is offer up my prayers to all those affected by this horrific act. I guess that's all we can do.

You can't keep guns from idiots or the wicked. What you can do is confront evil with force.

Guns are a tool. A very efficient tool, but a tool nonetheless. You can change the tool and the intent will still exist.

The aspects of AI terrify me and to get to the point of "thought crimes" (think Minority Report) would be terrible. If there is some predictive indication AI could give on these shooters. I would start there...with a whole lot of caution.

Guns are not the problem.

The problem is this country has degenerated into a diseased version of its former self.

100 years ago, anyone could buy a BAR or a Thompson submachine gun, and there were no mass killing of civilians. Criminals killed each other, but not civilians; and when a civilian death happened, the shooter was usually killed in short order by his fellow gang members.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Or a hangman's noose. Time frame was whenever the hangman was in town after the party was convicted. Let's bring that back and make it public.

Your post is charitable and well put.

I believe that administrators should be armed and that more law abiding citizens should be armed. That is the best way to reduce these incidents.

Long term, the best way to reduce them, is to teach the sanctity of human life from womb to tomb to all children in their education and to catechize children with Christian values. These kinds of things were far less common in our country before we cast Christ and the Ten Commandments out of the public square.

I did not mean to imply that the guns are the problem. It's guns in the hands of people who shouldn't have one... that's the problem. Not the guns itself... the people. Sorry if anyone thought that.

In order to address the situation, all parties need to be honest about the discussion and what drives it. Scary black guns with bayonets are not the problem. They are the tool used (less so the bayonet).

Nothing will change until we have an honest discussion. Hint, someone intent on killing other people doesn't need guns. The Bath School Massacre was 95 years ago.

That is a good start, but there is more we can do. But we won't. Because fixing the problem... or at least addressing the real issues are of no interest to either side.

Church school, maybe up to elementary age. We'll find out soon enough about the shooter, but seems like it would be an adult, not teen as most describe "school shooting".

"Keeping guns away from baddies" = (in public policy circles) reducing guns from everyone

There is no front-end solution that doesn't restrict rights of the innocent.

They missed the most offensive post from The Eternal Pessimist. I have let them know to remove that one as well.

Tragedy is independent of religion. The United States was founded explicitly to allow for freedom of religion and to not have a state mandated religion. Comment contrary to those ideals should be met with corrective context, not censorship by the pitchfork wielding folks.

My post in response to the one referred to was not derailing and not meant as such.

Given the scant details coming out thus far regarding who the shooter is and what the motivations may have been, then I think all folks can do at this point is pray, and more than one religion has prayer at its core.

Because everyone knows that within seconds the left is already calling for gun bans.

Biden, Pelosi, Schumer, and the rest will be calling for an "assault weapons ban" within a few hours if they have not already.

The fact that AP uses the term "gunman" rather than "attacker" means they are already framing the argument.

We're going to have to get away from "better 1,000 guilty people go free than 1 innocent man jailed" mindset if we want to tackle societal problems.

We need to figure out how much collateral damage we're comfortable with if we're going to start restricting who is "crazy" and can't buy guns, the same with who we can unvoluntarily commit to a looney bin and who we can't.

There are going to be good people who aren't crazy and should be able to buy guns who will be impacted by those changes.

So was Pelosi.

Amazing how that always seems to happen.

Democrat calls for gun bans and the perfect shooting for their narrative happens like clockwork.

Uvalde was clearly not hardened enough and even the basic protections were foiled by human behavior.

At some point hardening of targets becomes counter-productive and potentially dangerous in its own right.

Whilst waiting to pick our son up on Friday, I was casually noticing just how locked down the middle school is. SRO is onsite all day everyday, only one entrance is available for visitors, and that requires a photo ID to be presented to the foorbell camera and for the person to be buzzed in through two sets of impact glass paneled doors. Once in, you are in a lobby area and still not in the school and the windows in that area are all also impact resistant.

Most exterior doors are hardened with no exterior handles / knobs.

This is a 15+ yo school in suburban DFW. As the district upgrades all campuses, these hardening protocols are put in place.

I do not know the Christian school and what they may have had in place, but reason would indicate they may not have the same "hardening" protocols many public schools have been putting in place.

During the 100 Years War England required all men of age to carry a bow and dagger in Calais at all times in fear of attack from the French. Historical documents show a rapid drop in crime in Calais during that period.

Shooter was a woman who appeared to be a teenager.

Was carrying 2 "assault rifles" and one handgun.

3 adults and 3 students are dead, not counting the shooter.

Police arrived and killed the perp with 4 minutes of the call coming in.
