If you've got a great "family pit" good for you. But quit pretending that facts don't exist.
I gave you facts.

While it's very sensational when it happens, it's still pretty rare.

Over 17K people die every year in the US from slipping, tripping, and falling...we should outlaw walking.

Context does matter a little.

If they were an airplane, very few would board. It's all you need to know. I don't care of slips. I care about the most dangerous dogs and that's the discussion we're having. It seems lost on you.
I'm pointing out that it's not nearly the sensational thing that everyone here is making it out to be. There's LOTS of things more dangerous than ANY kind of dog.

Hell, this board is HEAVILY pro-gun. But, accidental discharges are WAY more dangerous than dogs. But, that's not sensational.

But, I get that context is immaterial to this thread so I'm going to bail on it...

Only 6% of dog owners have pit bulls. The vast majority of people won't come in close proximity to one. However, if you do, you better have your head on a swivel and be ready. Context does matter. Also, if your child plans on visiting a friend's house you might want to find out what kind of dog they have. If you are walking your dog and see a pit bull off leash get the F out of there.
Just remember, if you have friend's with guns, you've got more of a chance of dying from an accidental discharge.

So...keep your head on a swivel when you visit them.

shocker: if you have friends with a pool you're statistically more apt to drown.
We should ban pools.

Again never advocated for a ban. But continue your factless diatribe.
I've pointed out numerous facts. Name one that wasn't.

Ok.

And in the context of everything, pit bulls are WAY the **** down the list of dangerous things in this world. (see...that was using dogs AND context).

And to finalize. If you have friends with pit bulls you're

Then we should ban pit bulls.

But, pools first. Since they're worse.

Pools don't act on their own.
And yet they're more dangerous...

Now...as for the rest of this thread...good look and I hope you win.

As for me? Peace out.

Argumentum Ad Infinitum

It frequently happens on Wiki that two or more people with differing views are each unable to persuade the other. What generally happens next is a long drawn out, possibly but not necessarily personally nasty argument that may serve to illustrate the issues involved but more likely has evolved into a "who gets to have the last word" contest. Inevitably one party through exhaustion or boredom gives up and stops responding. The fallacy of Argumentum Ad Infinitum is the incorrect assumption that simply because people no longer argue with you that your case has been proved.

I posted the actual numbers for children ages 0-9.

It was clear, a pit bull is 15x more likely to kill a child aged 0-9 than a firearm.

my wife bought a puppy off Craigslist a couple years ago. It was advertised as half lab, half husky. When the dog grew up a little bit, my wife did the DNA test on her and turns out she is half pit, 1/8 german shepherd and 3/8 husky.

Dog is super sweet but yeah, I could see her biting someone and that's a scary thought.

But we love her so we will take our chances.

People like dogs that intimidate other people
Which is why they won't answer the question

Chows are also notorious for being aggressive and unpredictable, my parents took in a chow mix it bit my dad my parents then gave me the responsibility of finding the dog a home. Made a few phone calls nobody wanted an aggressive unpredictable chow mix.

Little girl, 6, savaged by pit bull in Maine leaving her with 1,000 stitches in her face | Daily Mail Online
Quote:

A six-year-old Maine girl will never be able to smile again after being mauled in a savage pit bull attack that left her with more than 1,000 stitches in her face and neck.

Little Lily Norton was on a playdate at a friend's house when the horrifying attack occurred. The pit bull, who was being watched by her friend's mother- leapt at the youngster and mauled her little face- when her friend walked away from the table to get a deck of cards for them to play with.

A relative in a GoFundMe wrote that 'the dog had Lily in her mouth.'

Lily was rushed to a local hospital and than flown to Boston Children's Hospital on Saturday for emergency surgery that took 11 hours and a massive amount of stitches from below her eyes to under her chin.

CJ Pitcher, a family friend who created the fundraiser for Lily told the Sun Journal that 'her salivary glands aren't working … and doctors said she won't be able to smile again ... muscles are too damaged.'

Its not pc to talk about genetics, but this is a good point. Humans domesticated a certain subset of animals over 10000 years ago and none since. Ever. Odd, isnt it? And no matter how an undomesticated species is raised, the data says they remain very unpredictable and dangerous. Pit bull genetics is clearly in the same category, if not even worse due to propensity for extreme tribalism/defense instinct.

Why do people keep comparing guns and dogs? They are not in the same universe when it comes to rights and constitutional protections.

You get rid of pit bulls by banning breeding them and enforcing it. Maybe you don't get rid of every mixed breed, but it would be pretty easy to get rid of the purebreds. If that doesn't work, you get strict on ownership. Simple fines should be enough to dissuade ownership.

We ban all kinds of dangerous animals that pose a threat to public safety. This is no different of a situation.

Agreed, I prefer less government and I love dogs, but despise Pits. I have an unflinching rule when it comes to my son (7 yrs old), no Pits are allowed at my house and he is not allowed at a friends house if they have a pit. He can pout and stomp his ass into his room but he will not be a story on the Dailymail.com and get over it.

They are comparing the two because the ideals and kneejerks associated with Both are identical. We are working off of emotion here. This thread has been an emotionally charged thread with t emotionally charged ideas to solve the emotion issue.

I say that because we seem to have a divergent feeling about this. If we are working off stats, I think it's 1 death or disfigurement for every 35,500 dogs that are pits or look like pits or have pit characteristics. To bolster the desire to ban the breed, we seem to have digressed to photos of mauled babies which then leads us to the age old adage "if we save one child, it's worth it." That has for time immemorial been the battle cry of the left, and one we regularly rail on but all of a sudden….now it's something we are championing.

I don't care one way or the other. Keep them. Ban them. Whatever. It's just an interesting evolution on this forum. You won't ban the breed or get rid of it. It's a ridiculous idea tot hunk you can. These are animals that can and will be bred regardless of legality.

Pot is illegal and my friends have a whole GD drawer of it.

Well, based on my posts on this website, you would know the following about me:

1. I didn't buy the covid/vax narrative
2. I support free market economics
3. I believe in border control
4. I support the 2nd amendment.
5. I'm against spending taxpayer money on Ukraine.
6. I love Aggie sports.
7. I like movies.
8. I'm a Buddhist.
9. I believe in aliens.

Just checking in. My pit bull and I wanted to know if they've been banned yet.

You owning a pit explains a lot

Well, based on my posts on this website, you would know the following about me:

1. I didn't buy the covid/vax narrative
2. I support free market economics
3. I believe in border control
4. I support the 2nd amendment.
5. I'm against spending taxpayer money on Ukraine.
6. I love Aggie sports.
7. I like movies.
8. I'm a Buddhist.
9. I believe in aliens.

So, how does owning a pit bull explain those?

Don't forget **** bull owners also believe the earth is spherical in shape and Epstein didn't kill himself.

Not a common known fact but many flat earth theorists believe that the flat earth is supported by elephants on top of a turtle's back….

In actuality the flat earth is supported by pit bulls…look it up
