For the sake of argument, let's take the Left's position to its logical extreme and say that all private ownership of all firearms is now banned, and that the production, importation, sale and possession of ammunition for the millions of guns currently privately owned is banned as well, rendering them unusable once existing stocks of ammunition are either consumed or confiscated.

For the sake of argument, let's say the sale of guns was completely banned, but you could pass them down to your kids. (I'm for more restrictions on buying but not this much) Everyone who has guns gets to keep them.
Would that affect our ability to fight a tyrannical government? We already have a gun for everyone….
This kind of incrementalism is exactly why the words "shall not be infringed" were adopted. It wasn't just the war of independence against the Brits, but the experience with the crown/church disarming people in Britannia that the (predominantly Protestant) founders had fresh in mind.Manhattan said:Quote:

Yes, to answer your somewhat inane/rhetorical question, banning something from being freely produced and sold in the market would impact the people's ability to fight the government. See: China.Quote:
Under the auspices of the 1671 Game Act, for example, the Catholic James II had ordered general disarmaments of regions home to his Protestant enemies. See Malcolm 103106. These experiences caused Englishmen to be extremely wary of concentrated military forces run by the state and to be jealous of their arms. They accordingly obtained an assurance from William and Mary, in the Declaration of Right (which was codified as the English Bill of Rights), that Protestants would never be disarmed: "That the subjects which are Protestants may have arms for their defense suitable to their conditions and as allowed by law."

It's scary to think about how bad off we'd be without guns.
Like no school shootings? Or what are you talking about?
And there are no drug overdoses since drugs were banned.
Is DUI against the law? That might be a good start too to save some needless deaths.

The gun grabbers won't stop until BB guns are illegal, then they'll be coming for archery gear, knives, baseball bats, etc. Not another inch!
Vaccine being developed--->take the vax to protect you, won't get covid---->get the vax to protect family and friends---->get the vax, it reduces severity----->get the vax, you need to, herd immunity, needless deaths----->take the vax or get fired, drummed out of the military which included unconstitutional actions to take it to this extreme utilizing a govt agency (OSHA).Squadron7 said:
