We are definitely the best generation since the greatest generation.

Because we were raised to think for ourselves, work hard, don't whine, don't make excuses, earn what you get, learn from your mistakes and do things for ourselves. To name a few. It didn't mean we occasionally didn't get help, we did at times but we picked ourselves back up when we failed.

We stayed out till the street lights came on, we drank out of garden hoses, we played outside.

We were not in the everyone gets a trophy or ribbon generation. You either made the team or you didn't. You either made the grade or you didn't. We weren't coddled, but we were loved.

Remember when you had those group projects in school? I always hated that. We just had a very entrepreneurial do-it-ourselves attitude. I still do.

My parents were a little older, they were not boomers, they were the generation ahead of that, so I learned a lot from them.

A lot of them were raised by Gen X. Both my boys are probably more conservative than I am. They don't expect anything to be given to them and I've taught them to realize that life isn't fair. Stop making excuses and take responsibility and that is the path to success and happiness and both of them are seeing the fruits of that.

We were the first latch key kids.

We had to be more self reliant, more responsible and less tolerant of bull ****. Both our parents worked and we were left at home during the summer time to fend for ourselves.
Gen X DID grow up with SOME training wheels, but we wanted our independence early. We wanted that drivers license. We wanted to turn 21 so we could party. We wanted to win when we played games. We saw a 2nd place trophy as the losers trophy.

Then what did Gen X do?

Started baby proofing the house, nerfing life, and buying bicycle helmets for our kids to use during masturbation.

Ya--- we were awesome-- until those kids came around.

Not my kids, certainly kept them safer and tried to have them learn from my mistakes but my boys are very self reliant and more mature than a lot of the adults I know.

You're not wrong. However most of my friends are normal people they raise their children better, more like us, but you're right. And I don't understand it. We were not raised like that.

I think some of it came from a lot of people wanted to be friends with their children instead of being the parent.

It astonishes me how much kids in college now text their parents during the day. When we were off at school, we were off at school and you only called maybe once a week because of long distance.

Cell phones, social media have changed a big part of it. But I think it just went into hyper zone wanting your children to have more than you did.

With us, our parents truly didn't have a lot and worked their way up and made our lives better. Many of us because of that started out in a better place after college even though we still had entry level jobs and small apartments and used furniture and stuff when we started where is the kids now have brand new things in college.

But you're not wrong.

Maybe the whole of generation X can redeem themselves by getting this back on track.

People become more conservative the older they get.

Gen-X was decisively for Clinton in 96, Gore in 2000, and Kerry in 2004. That ship has sailed..... clearly.

This is a big part of it. Most of these kids are that are the most outspoken and saying the stupidest things have never had to take care of themselves.

Mommy and daddy have paid for everything and even if they are poor they still have not had to pay bills and rent a home. You see so many more kids living at home till almost 30 now which is just bizarre to me.

They can sit there and scream Socialism and everybody share and capitalism is evil, they don't really know what they're talking about. Even these climate idiots gluing themselves to things and pouring soup on photos are literally covered in items made from fossil fuels out there being idiots because Democrats have convinced him that the world is going to end in five years. It's not. There's nothing wrong with fossil fuels.

And a lot of that you can blame on social media.

They don't want to grow up.

I'd be curious to see the 30-44 age group broken down into a few buckets. I have always believed that my age group (I turn 39 this year) fits more closely with Gen X than millennials and the world went to **** a few years after my generation. It could also be that growing up in rural Texas put me a few years behind generationally speaking.

I think Clay is correct in his assessment. We were raised in the belief that the color of someone's skin did not determine that person's ability or character. So the trotting out of rebranded segregation and racism is a non-starter for us Gen-Xers. We also despise people trying to control us and force us into compliance. We are inclined to an eff-you attitude when it comes to those of totalitarian bent.

They're both based AF despite my best efforts.

Gen Xers came of age before the internet. Where the last generation that remembers what it was like to be bored and to go climb a tree or throw rocks off the bridge as entertainment.

Also, we remember the days before free money. When it was socially acceptable to be frugal and save money.

It's a unique perspective that we haven't forgot.

We were?

Guess it depended on who you were hanging with but most all of my friends were Republicans. Wow, that's interesting to know. I mean I guess obviously since Clinton did win twice.

Of course my low point was when I voted for Obama in 2008. I still can't quite explain that except for I didn't like John McCain and I thought how bad could Obama be. I freaky learned my lesson. Makes me sick to think about it. Not that my one vote made the difference, but if there were a lot of those out there being an idiot like me then shame on us.
