Putin is smart. He's taken over a country for $2 worth of sanctions. I'd say that's pretty smart. It is a vast, vast location, a piece of land with lot of people and just walking right in.

Donald J Trump

Quote:

This is genius. Putin declares a big portion of Ukraine as independent. Oh, that's wonderful. He is going to go in and be a peacekeeper. That is the strongest peace force.

He very strongly and bigly geniused his way in to a "peaceful" ass kicking.

Obama: Putin takes Crimea
Trump: Putin minds his manners
Biden: Putin goes after all of Ukraine

This is reality. I don't give a crap about the words. It's about real people and their lives. The dem leaders you worship are responsible for making Putin feel enabled.

Too bad this enablement has led to thousands of lives being destroyed.

He said he was smart (he is) but never said he was right or justified. Trump was actually throwing shade at Europe for being weak and in no way prepared to be energy independent or militarily able to defend themselves. Russia had been looking to take Ukraine or at the very least overthrow Zelensky for years, but waited to do so until they believed Europe and the US were fractured enough to not be able to coordinate quickly on a response. The US withdrawal from Afghanistan was met with a lot of discord among NATO members and Biden was being trashed my MANY foreign legislators. It was then (in my opinion) Putin gave the go-ahead thinking it would be a quick win.

He wasn't counting on the Uke resistance being strong enough to last more than a week. Europe surprisingly got their **** together in a hurry and Biden's handlers (to their credit) got the military aid flowing quickly enough after he at first wanted to do no more than offer Zelensky a ride out of town.

When Putin didn't destroy infrastructure he was looking to aquire, liberals said he was losing.

When Putin did destroy infrastructure liberals said he was losing.

When Putin ends up with Eastern Ukraine, liberals will say Putin lost the war.

Putin will end up taking most everything east of the Dnipro River and it will be becuase white liberals elected a Kompromised weak POTUS.

Well, when someone has the ability to press a button and make a city disappear, calling him stupid is not a good idea.

Well when someone acts stupidly its OK to say so. This has cost Russia more than "two dollars".

Trump stupidly bet on Russia against the west and lost. Because he too is stupid. One of the dumbest humans the country has ever spawned.

I have come to the conclusion that you are just a troll with no facts and just throwing crap against the wall seeing of anything would stick.

It Trump or Putin were that stupid, then why did Putin wait until the real idiot entered the White House to start his crap.

Putin knew Biden, just like he knew Obama, was an idiot and what Putin underestimated was Ukraine resistance and Russian military incompetence.

He read Biden perfectly and I still do not see Putin waving any white flags.

Did it cost "two dollars" or will it cost trillions?

This post is adorable. Western equipment is kicking Russia's ass. Putin miscalculated and the bipartisan response does not agree that it "was genius and only cost $2""

Trump is a moron who lost just like his loser friend Putin.

Are you really too stupid to look at the date of the twitter feed you posted? It was FEBRUARY. You seem to want to pretend like it was today and Trump knew then everything we all know now, assuming what was stated was a) accurate or b) both accurate and not taken out of context.

My guess is that a lot of people had that same opinion back then. Knowing Biden is a weakling (the best thing that could be said about him), Putin knew he had little to no US opposition.

OP, this thread is asinine. Trying to play political gotcha and pin one on Trump for doing Trump things after he was out of office serves literally no purpose.

Most of the successes on the part of Ukraine have been in spite of the current administration and might very well have been entirely unnecessary if Biden hadn't behaved like a wet Kleenex with regard to the situation a year ago.

There are significantly greater things at stake at this point, resulting in the premise of this thread coming off as exceedingly jackasstic.

Because of Tucker Carlson, some conservatives have this weird fetish about Russia. Russia is not a friend to the U.S. or the west, Putin has been very clear that losing the former Soviet satellite nations was a terrible blunder and wants that back. His actions in Ukraine imperil everyone, the west is just trying to navigate past a truly epic disaster.

Visit these countries to understand they would rather fight tooth and nail risking everything, than go back to that system of government or any other form of it. The Russian government is going to face another collapse, I can't see another way around it, what form that takes I don't know.

False. He is a dangerous clown that should never be power again. He's not qualified to run a lemonade stand.

American equipment is destroying Russians faster than anyone imagined. Was this a "Genius move"? Did it "cost $2" No.

No, he didn't. He specifically told Europe (and Germany in particular) to bet against Russia and remove their dependency from them in the most public forum on the planet. And they laughed at him and doubled down on Russia.

Trump also destroyed Putins chemical weapons depots in Syria and slaughtered a 500 man mercenary group employed by Putin in Syria.

Like all democrats, you are confusing Trumps frequent commentary on Putins strategy from the Russian POV as tacit support by trump.

This thread is embarrassing for you.

Is the people who are working for Russia the guy who raised sanctions on them, told everyone to stop depending on them, and neutered their military globally?

Or the people who paid Russian spies for info on their opposition to justify spying on them, sold uranium rights to them, have allowed them to take more territory every time they are in office, and are trying to make an entire continent dependent on them for energy?

It is called diplomacy, Whistle Pig. Perhaps you should look it up at some point and learn a thing or two about the concept.

When you adroitly combine diplomacy with a hard-core Jacksonian approach to foreign policy (Refer to Walter R. Mead's The Jacksonian Tradition and American Foreign Policy.), you don't have very many issues with your enemies jumping ugly on you.

Weakness, as Biden displayed in Afghanistan, is provocation for our enemies. His surrender to the Taliban provoked Putin in Ukraine just as Obama's failure to act upon his own "red line" in Syria in 2012 led to Putin testing him in both Syria and Ukraine in the years following.

If Trump were President now, then we would never have seen this take place in Ukraine now.

Whistle Pig, you argue that Trump's categorization of Putin as a "genius" is somehow indicative of poor judgement rather than seeing as it actually existed: a diplomatic statement designed to feed the ego of a man who has an inflated sense of self and loves being exalted.

Trump called him a genius. That he did.

When did he take 10% from Putin and his oligarchs? Because we all know someone who did just that.

And if it were up to Joseph Robinette Biden, Zelensky would have surrendered his office and Ukraine would have given Russia everything it wanted and more. This was supposed to be another Afghanistan.

He didn't count on Zelensky being a Jacksonian himself. He didn't count on Zelensky not being his level of coward. He didn't count on Zelensky being unwilling to sell out his country for money and safety like the Afghan President.

You truly are incompetent. Or a troll.

Nobody is playing goalie for Putin.

They pointed out that Putin caused trouble only when your morons were in office. obama and biden show they are too weak to be true leaders. Putin knew this to be the case. He would have never done this with Trump in office. That is the truth they are telling you. But you either are unwilling to accept the truth, or you are just trying to stir up trouble.

I'm at a loss how Trump telling Europe to quit consuming Russian O&G was supposedly friendly to Putin?

Or the time he authorized the bombing and killing of a couple of hundred of Russian Wagner mercenaries in Syria. So very friendly.

Sanctions were passed by a veto-proof majority in congress. Trump had no choice.

Quote:

Separately, on August 2, 2016, Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort met in New York City with his long-time business associate Konstantin Kilimnik, who the FBI assesses to have ties to Russian intelligence. Kilimnik requested the meeting to deliver in person a peace plan for Ukraine that Manafort acknowledged to the Special Counsel's Office was a "backdoor" way for
Russia to control part of eastern Ukraine

https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/6002293/190322-Redacted-Mueller-Report.pdf

Quote:

But in almost every case, the sanctions were imposed with Trump complaining about it saying we were being too hard. The fact is that he barely knew where Ukraine was. He once asked John Kelly, his second chief of staff, if Finland were a part of Russia. It is just not accurate to say that Trump's behavior somehow deterred the Russians. I think the evidence is that Russia didn't feel that their military was ready.
