I feel bad for Griner. 9 years in a Russian prison is brutal. But honestly what makes you think bringing in drugs as an American to a hostile nation is a good idea? When I travel to Russia or China I double check my work bag for any little thing that might be construed as something even if it's a paper clip I played with or a broken pen. I take that stuff out.
Got held up at the train station in Shanghai for small grooming scissors in my shaving kit. They went through the rest of my bag with a fine tooth comb. After that I just bought all my toiletries when I got to China and and only brought clothes and my work bag with the absolute minimum of stuff I would need

Wait a minute: if Trump and Putin, according to the left, are supposed to be best buds, why doesn't the White House ask Trump to intervene and get her/him back?

I mean, seems like the logical choice IF what they've been saying for years is true and IF they really wanted Griner back from Russia.

Right?

Ask your leftist friends these questions.

Will she go to mens or womens prison? Where Russia puts he/she may finally answer the question of does it have a shlong or not.

Russia is so messing with Biden. Zero incentive to hand her back over. Probably doesn't give a rats ass about the guy we are holding as a swap option

Actually the Russians would really really like Viktor Bout back. They're just trying to get more out of this weak ass administration before cutting a final deal. Griner won't serve nine years in Russia and I suspect her and Whelan will be back in the US before EOY. But the Russians will get more than just Bout for those two.

Griner committed a crime in a foreign country. Whether or not it is a crime here is irrelevant. Whether or not we agree with the law is irrelevant. She broke Russian law and is facing the consequences of her actions. Why, exactly, should I care enough to trade a dangerous Russian criminal for her?

Sooooo much irony here. If you want a perfect example of extreme stupidity coupled with hypocrisy and a lack of self awareness, these tweets masters it.

The U.S. is racist, and homophobic. The U.S. is a helhole.

But she is locked up in Russia, which is 'for real' racist and homophobic (at least within the government).
You can't fix stupid.

I think we all know that she's not going to serve more than a couple more months of this "nINe YeAR SEnTeNCE!!!!" as Biden will give away half of the country to appease the mob and get her back. But this exercise is fun nonetheless. It exposed blatant hypocrisy (yet again) by our resident libs who walked right into it

Ironically enough, I bet she makes more money from the fame, book and movie rights coming from this imprisonment than she ever would have playing basketball. If she survives the experience it may be a net positive financially.

One story I heard is she was essentially a protected VIP due to her status of playing for one of the oligarch's basketball teams and had her penthouse paid for by the team owner and was allowed to freely travel with marijuana with no issues in the past. She broke the rules but previously the rules didn't apply to her. Of course things changed.
I'll take a nibble on this story. If you add in that we overtly ticked off the oligarchs by lumping them in with Putin and taking away all their nice boats and sports teams, and maybe the Russian said f that dude and told the airport to check her bags.

I like this theory of what may have happened. But its likely shes just a stupid entitled mf-er who thought her fame and fortune would get her out of any trouble.

Lol! Doubtful. We will forget about her and hear in 10 years when she is released.

She's 31, so even if she stays the entire time, she'll get out at 40 and will have at least a couple of movies - one being a documentary- on Netflix. She'll have offers from ESPN and of course book publishing companies as well.

If she survives she'll have more money because of this than anything she'd earn playing.

Let me help you out: Flip the demographics and political affiliation of the person in question and just about everyone on this board would be. I know because I've seen them do it.

Happy to help
Here's my thing when it comes to her. I don't care about her politics, who she sleeps with, or anything else. If we bring her home tomorrow or she serves her whole sentence, the way I feel wouldn't change one bit. I just find it hilarious that she has/d a problem with this country because she thought she was somehow oppressed because she's black and gay.

How in the fook is she oppressed? She has an althletic gift from God that very few in the world have, and she's been treated differently her whole life because of it. She may not make the money NBA players do, but she still makes a lot more that majority of Americans, and that's not taking into account any endorsement deals she undoubtably has. When her playing career is over, she'll land some cush six figure job with ESPN as an announcer or analyst covering the WNBA and continue cashing checks. And we all know she'll parlay this whole thing into a seven figure book/movie deal and be set for life.

You'd think that'll be enough to make her see how blessed she really is, but it isn't. When you've been given everything your whole life, you become oblivious to the day-to-day struggles people of every race/gender/sexual orientation/etc face, so you find things to complain about and to be a victim of. Now, she's seeing what real oppression looks like. What a corrupt government can and will do to people, and I find it hilarious.

I hope this whole ordeal changes her tune and she see's just how great this country is and how it has given her an opportunity to get a college education and to make a lot of money by just being good at playing a game. But I doubt it. She'll probably go even futher left and somehow find a way to blame someone other than herself for what happened to her.

This whole thing took what, 2 months? Jussie committed a simple crime and his saga took over two years in the courts. The Russian legal system is vastly more efficient, to their credit. Her team tried to drag this out but couldn't.

According to her defense attorney, the average sentence for similar crimes in Russia is 5 years. And 1/3 or those get paroled. I think parole was lost in translation and meant as time served or probation but I am not exactly sure.

I don't like her or anything about her, but this is a direct insult to us, the USA. An insult with intent to extort. Can't say you should expect anything different from a country that invaded another country with very little reason….

Biden should not negotiate a real criminal for her, but if there is anyone else borderline I think it could be a fair trade. But Russia doesn't want fair so I think we give up something big in comparison.
