I wonder....is anyone working on small-scale, "personal" nuke reactors? That would be cool. That would throw all the power issues out the window.

Serious question.

There's no point with natural gas as cheap and plentiful as it is

Micro-reactors (a la SMR's) are being somewhat studied for, essentially, HOA-size use cases, but not 'personal ones.' At least, I believe so.

There are a number of problems with the march to EV-topia. They're not zero-emission vehicles, they're an extravagant purchase, costly to repair, expensive to insure, hazardous to own, and they create a new class of hazmat problems.

They also need to pick a narrative. Are they extravagant expensive purchases or are they so cheap now that resale values are crushed.

I don't think that was a 'great decision' but I don't lump you in as an EVangelist otherwise. The guys/gals who can't help but get angry at every drawback and heresy about their vehicles and religious beliefs about them/their brand are the ones who keep me going on this thread.

Ah, that would make more sense, I guess. As Kansas Kid pointed out, even a small reactor would make too much power for a family to use.

One thing it most certainly isn't…a free market where EVs stand on their own.

Every EV owner on this thread is quite open about their drawbacks and how they don't work for many people

You're the one who says they work for no one in any instance

Part of the time, but to say Tesla has never benefited from tax credits is flat out wrong.

There would not be this hostility towards EVs if the government wasn't trying to force us into them. Not sure why you feel you have to come to EVs rescue on every thread.

Sales continue to drop. Getting hard for the libs to obfuscate this fact.

The evidence is plentiful. Manufacturers have been cutting prices as dealers' lots filled up with unsold electrics. Ford is halving its output of electric F-150 trucks in its Dearborn, Michigan, plant. General Motors dealers are pressing the company to reverse its strategy, cut EV production, and build hybrids instead. Tesla CEO Elon Musk warned of "notably lower" EV production.
Trump will fix it.

Wow. I'm sure this will be a surprise to the leftists who vote for Democrats;

Quote:

The five-door hatchback doesn't have the best range or fanciest amenities. But what it does have is a top price under $14,000, good safety features, aggressive looks, and plenty of financial backing from Beijing. BYD's specialties are batteries and high-tech manufacturing, and they're using both to aggressively expand overseas production and deliveries.

An improved version for South American markets, called the Dolphin Mini, is already on sale, starting at $21,990.

"What we've seen over time is automotive manufacturers eventually enter all the markets that matter... Ultimately the Chinese will come to the U.S.," Marin Gjajachief operating officer for Ford's EV unit told CNBC in an interview last week.

The Alliance for American Manufacturing said in February, "The introduction of cheap Chinese autoswhich are so inexpensive because they are backed with the power and funding of the Chinese governmentto the American market could end up being an extinction-level event for the U.S. auto sector."
Some might call it a bloodbath.

Of course, it doesn't have to be a bloodbath. If there is a bloodbath, it will be on us, not China.

We talked about that upthread. The EVangelists assured us it did not really stall, is quite common in ICE trucks, and is overall NBD.

Yeah there are things that will cause some issues when off-roading in water/mud, like the cover on the lower control arm seen in the video below. Great collector of mud and debris.

Since EVs are finally on par with ICEs and can compete on an even playing field, when will these tax credits end so I can plan my purchase?

They can't end soon enough. Unfortunately, I don't see it happening no matter who wins in November. Trump touted the credits in a debate against Biden 4 years ago and even took credit for implementing them even though it was actually Obama who started this abomination.

The tax credits was intended to save the big III and lifeline to UAW. Biden tried to ram through some union backed credit.

EVs, like any other industry, the best will survive and thrive. If you take away EV credits, this would be the nail in the Big 3 EV plans and the eventual demise of the big 3. They just can't compete.

Interesting.

Consumer reports states otherwise. Unless you have other information.

There are >45 pure EV models for sale in the U.S. Only 13 of the vehicles on that list are pure EVs that are actually for sale currently.

Because they had to. If Biden gave EV credits to just the big 3, then it would reek of favoritism. He tried to do some UAW carve out but caved when he got backlash.

This is the big problem with many on this EV topic. They only read the headlines, latch on like its the gospel without understanding the topic.
