That is not my understanding. Tesla and Space X have received government subsidies. How it shows up in your price I do not know but again I have read they do get a subsidy.

Tesla got subsidies early on, but these tax credits run out once a threshold in vehicles sold is reached. They are not permanent.

Thank you for agreeing with me. Musk is quoted as saying he could not have been successful without the subsidies.

What subsidies do O&G get?

Oh, that's right....none. They use tax breaks like any smart company would and do.

EVs are not for me. The overall economics, ride, power, luxury, ac performance and true impact to the country is something I cannot support. EVs are a fraud due the subsidy and true impact.
Likewise, I'd prefer not to feel guilty about the poor slaves (often children) working to make my vehicle.

Why would you feel guilty?

They have a job. You can't put US ethos on third world nations. In a lot of places it's that, sex trade, or starvation.
I realize a lot of EV owners/drivers don't care, but I don't want to picture/consider the human and environmental, in addition to economic damage my vehicle decision would make, were I such an individual.

I don't think slavery is something to dismiss as 'well, that's just too bad.'

So you'll ditch your smartphone and cordless tools? And laptop? You're a better man than I am.
Look at the scale.

The slavery, pollution, and precious metal shortage will be driven essentially solely by EV's.

Quote:

By 2030, EVs will need 2,700 GWh worth of lithium-ion batteries a year. For perspective, that's equivalent to 225 billion iPhone 11 batteriesand 13X more battery power than we use today.

Now, lithium batteries are made of a number of materials and chemical compounds. And their composition varies based on technology. I'm not a chemist, but I can tell you one thing: no lithium-ion battery can be made, well, without lithium.

It's the lightest metal on earth and the key component of today's rechargeable batteries. And obviously, as demand for batteries grows, so will demand for lithium. In fact, UBS analysts estimated that the lithium market will grow 8X by 2030.

Problem is, where will we get all this lithium?
But again, you're welcome not to care, as you have typed out so many times. Just as you didn't care about any doubts about the efficacy of the covid vaccines for so long. I'm not going to debate you again on it all. Something something about "arguing with an…they will wear you down and then beat you with experience."

Yet, perhaps some others will/have read this thread and consider another perspective.

They don't. I've never had to wait to charger. Ever. The Tesla navigation also shows stall availability in real time. With 15 to 20 minute charges you simply aren't there very long.

YOU haven't, but in larger markets, especially CA, this isn't always the case.

There are also times I've had to wait to ge gas. It happens. Owning a Tesla means exactly dick when it comes to this issue. Again...depending on location and time of day.

Hint; you'll spend a lot of time waiting around/going out of your way on a cross-country trip in a BEV. And when the brownouts/grid is in distress…it will just be getting worse. Also, you'll need a bunch of apps, and may need to make sure they find plugs that work for your BEV.

It's akin to having an ICE powered car, and knowing it would only work with gasoline sold by 5 to 10 percent of the gas stations, and you had to have their special apps to do so, plus it would take at least 20 minutes to fill it up if a pump was open. There you are, government-style 'progress.'

An EV would be miserable for a cross country trip. 750 miles or so is about the max I would push it.

If you aren't an idiot like the person in the article and know how to use a map you can travel at about 62mph in a Tesla/Hyundai Ioniq 5/Porsche Taycan (including time stopped and charging).

And almost everyone's car in the line is worth more than they paid for it, so it must not be too much of an inconvenience or they would trade in for ICE.

I've only had to wait once for about 10 minutes, and I knew ahead of time because the car told me, I could have just gone home and charged later.
Through Dark Brandon all things are possible.

LOL, more biased anecdotes do not a compelling argument make.

I'll trust the journalists, and my judgment is pretty solid, as I've never, ever voted for a Democrat.

In all seriousness, what's the furthest that you have personally driven on a single charge?

And under what conditions with respect to traffic and weather?

Because out here in SoCal, Vegas is 275 miles away and requires a charging stop in a Tesla.

and how many EV's are there in Dallas competing for those stalls? Get back to us when 10% of the vehicles on the road are electric.
NO AMNESTY!

in order for democrats, liberals, progressives et al to continue their illogical belief systems they have to pretend not to know a lot of things; by pretending "not to know" there is no guilt, no actual connection to conscience. Denial of truth allows easier trespass.

235 miles. I wouldn't try to make 275 miles. Its too easy to stop and charge for about 10 minutes and add about 150 miles of range.

If electric cars were not subsidized for the rich by the poor and middle class there would be very few on the road.

There's a solution!

BEV drivers in the future will just tow around their 'range extenders.' Of course Tesla drivers will be ahead of the curve, and demand 4 (or more) parking spaces to fold out their trailer's solar panels.

Florida family sad to learn their 2014, 60K mile Ford Focus electric battery is…more than the car to replace, but no worries, it's also unavailable and the car is now a paperweight.

Quote:

Siwinski had only had her Focus Electric for six months before the dashboard lit up with a warning message. The family took it to a shop, and then it stopped working altogether. Avery's grandpa Ray stepped in to try and find a solution.

"Turns out, this is a pretty common problem for this particular car," he said. "The Ford dealership had advised us that we could replace the battery. It would only cost $14,000."

That was already $3,000 more than the family paid for the car and the quote was just for the parts. Installation and labor costs would make the price of replacing the batteries even higher. If he didn't want to fix it, Ford Auto Nation in Pinellas County offered $500 to buy the car as-is, Ray claimed.

Through further research, he later found out that batteries weren't even available for the car. "So it didn't matter. They could cost twice as much, and we still couldn't get it," Ray said.

The family's message to people looking to buy EVs is, do your research. Like an engine, the battery pack is one of the most complex and important parts of an electric vehicle, making it hard to replace and expensive, too.
But batteries are going to last 12 years and 200K miles now, right?
