How?
???
You said, "The Ukes don't have to retake territory they and the sane world need to make it cost so much for russians to hold, that eventually putin has to cede the ground. Who knows when that will be."
How will the world make it cost so much for the Russians to hold?
The problem is, Europe has decided to pay Russia for natural gas, effectively funding the war. So, how is the sane world going to make them pay? Stop buying cheap natural gas? How will they do that?
Ok great question. With the exception of liquidating russian foreign assets, I can't comment on specifics on how to do that economically but its certainly a large part of it.
The rest has to come from significant losses in military, energy, infrastructure, etc resources that putin decides finally cost more than keeping the hallowed ground.
If NK is now supplying 60% he is nearing the end of his military supply and internal pressures are increasing.
The deep strikes are very costly but it seems russia is getting better defending or Ukes are low on deep strike weapons. The naval & air asset losses have been so great they don't even risk them anymore near the front. So supply more resources to increase these losses to answer your question.
I am doubtful for afull withdrawal to pre 2014 lines but I would like to see Mariupol returned along with a significant buffer SE side of Dnipro river.
