Kim getting paid with Russian SAMs and other compensation for sending 10,000 regular NK Army soldiers to die for Putin, along with supplying Russia with ballistic missiles and millions of artillery rounds. Those third country troops are the biggest single escalation of the war since Putin first invaded.

"Overall, the S-400 would make sense for North Korea, especially in a strategic role for the protection of Pyongyang since the country otherwise lacks modern air defense systems in this class. The protection of the capital primarily relies upon mainly outdated surface-to-air missiles and anti-aircraft artillery. Meanwhile, North Korea is increasingly active in building its own types of air defense systems."

US sending non-persistent (self-deactivating) anti-personnel land mines to Ukraine.

"The decision to provide ADAMs to Ukraine was made to counter Russia's so-called "meat assaults" massive waves of personnel attacking positions. These attacks have been taking place for years, but especially so now in eastern Ukraine and Russia's Kursk region. Though Russia has been slowly gaining ground this way, it has come at an incredibly high cost in terms of personnel and equipment losses."

ATACMS being used in Russia already a few days ago. If you look at this article you can see the strike radius map of Russian arms storage facilities and airfields, these will cause serious problems for Russian supply chain

Interesting. I didn't even know we still had these in inventory. These are pretty old in design and have an active life span measured in hours and are not variable. I had to learn up on these real fast when I found one on a training range on San Clemente Island years ago. Had a half hour to become a SME on them before I had to help make a case to close the range for a week to sweep it for more.

So this is not really a set it and forget it weapon but more of a drop it on troop concentrations or directly into active advancements to sow mayhem and discontent and confusion. They also self destruct after it times out which goes in line with our not wanting to be blowing off limbs of kids in 30 years. All in all, these seem like a perfect weapon for Ukraine. And of course, would have been better ohhhh, about 2 years ago.

Fun fact, we also made a grenade version of these for SF on the run. Pull the pin and drop behind you to "discourage" any pursuers. I wonder if we still have any of those laying around somewhere?

ETA: Ah. Probably should have read the article first as it outlines much of what I said up there. Also mentioned we already shipped 70K+ of the RAAMs which are the anti armor version which is pretty damn interesting to me. If they can get those concentrated fast enough, that alone can be game changing in some assaults alone I would think. Russia is still trying to force 25+ armored vehicle columns here and there and dropping these in front of and behind and then all around could be devastating. So instead of half getting away maybe get most or even a clean wipe.

As 15 year loggy, we always got **** laying around. The problem is whether it's on anyone's books.

I don't see these as making much difference especially the way Ukraine employs artillery. Will require some training and new SOP development. Almost all of orc infantry have been dismounts and mostly forced once the armor has been targeted. This may be a good time to utilize but the Ukes are already chasing down all of the dismounts with drones. They have so many drones we are regularly seeing multiple fpv drones targeting a single orc soldier.

On mines, orc sapper puts out mines on road, orc car approaches, so he tries to warn them. They run him over and then hit mine. You can't make this **** up.

Here's a good example of why Ukraine is so reluctant to allow Putin to retain what he has stolen as part of any peace deal.

"Russia is trying to seize a vital Ukrainian coal mine. Without it, the country's remaining steel industry will be crippled."

Additionally, Russia is already occupying a large percentage of Ukraine's most productive agricultural land, much of its oil and mineral resources, and most of its coastal ports and fisheries.

Which is the real reason putin invaded. All about resources to steal and nothing about nazis or made up NATO threats.

Yep, that and he couldn't tolerate an independent, prosperous and increasingly democratic Ukraine showing next-door Russians what is possible when people take back control of their own governance.

Putin's "Greater Russia" creed is about keeping threats to his dictatorship at a distance and his definition of what constitutes a threat encompasses far more than just potentially hostile militaries.

UKR infantry demonstrate the posture you have once you have accepted death. No fear or even reaction as munition lands in front of them as they evacuate wounded.

Letting go of your life in your head to let go of your fear is pretty easy and probably even automatic to keep operating at the level needed to do the job. It's not something you just choose to do. Trying to find that life again afterwards though is the hard part and where so many fail.

Both Ukraine and Russia are going to be crushed by mental health issues no matter the outcome at this point. I know Ukraine is trying to take some proactive measures but resources are severely limited and frankly there hasn't been a war like this in generations. Russia OTOH, doesn't seem to really care from what I can tell. I think this stems from their official stance of downplaying the war at every avenue possible. But their alcohol and domestic violence levels are skyrocketing. Which is horrendous for a nation that was damn near defined by them already.

Here's a good look at Putin's often violent irregular campaign against the EU and US.

"We've seen arson, sabotage and more: dangerous actions conducted with increasing recklessness," warned Ken McCallum, the head of MI5, Britain's domestic security and counter-intelligence agency, of the threat posed by Russia and the GRU, its military-intelligence agency. "The GRU in particular is on a sustained mission to generate mayhem on British and European streets," he said on October 8th."

Clearly this is incorrect, as Putin is very much a "live and let live", "you do you" kinda guy.

But this is all about NATO provocation, not a land grab at all. Putin would NEVER invade another country without provocation.

they are not going to be buyers of any foreign currencies anyone may have in Russia and need to swap into Rubles. You are stuck with it (or have to go to the black market to exchange it).

Impossible. We were told on this very thread that sanctions did zero to the Russian economy and that China, North Korea, and Iran were supporting the Russian economy and all doing quite swimmingly.

Putin has 2 months minus 1 week to get thru his crisis. Honesty I'm unsure the Russian leadership could last another 6 months at this pace but that won't matter.

Yep, Putin's house of cards is increasingly set to come tumbling down.

We just need to understand where our national interests lay and stay the course.

Casualty rate is thought to be above 1k a day so the math checks out.

But i understand finding those numbers hard to believe. Incredible meat grinder.
