You know it's interesting the coverage this is getting.

We're 2 years in and the president and his advisors have decided it would benefit things to rotate the command. It's not unusual by any stretch, it happens and is often seen as necessary by most modern militaries in conflict to get new eyes and strategy in theater when things aren't working or get stale. The stalemated front lines currently reinforce that.

Yet this one has instantly been deemed bad by the media before it was ever actually released to the public. Some claim all kind of outlandish stories as to why he is being removed and somehow it's supposed to make the President look bad.

And now we hear it was borderline insubordination by the guy that is being replaced. The guy that was personally in charge of the failed 2023 offensive. And by all measures, hasn't lived up to anyone expectations, including the allies providing funding and supplies in over a year.

And then Nortex posts it. Which really makes me believe this is nothing more than a coordinated Russian media Psyops to try and stop it. How many top line commanders has Russia replaced at this point? Dozens?

So when Russia was "rotating commanders" it was bad and we pointed and laughed at them.

Now when Ukraine does it, it's not bad and actually all modern militaries should be doing it?

I can see how people would get confused on what reaction to have.

Rotating commanders is fine. Rotating them out of a window is entirely different.

Rotating infrequently != tossing everyone in charge out of windows every couple of months. HTH

Edit: dammit Teslag beat me to it!

It isn't a "good thing", but it is a normal thing when you are not achieving your objectives. When the Russians were doing it, they were claiming everything was going according to plan, but the number of commanders they were firing told a different story. Now we have had all of these stories about how last year's offensive didn't go as planned because this guy wanted to use the new equipment to attack the same way the Russians did. It would be surprising if there were not major reorgs of the leadership after how poorly the late summer offensive went for Ukraine last year. So no, it isn't "good", but it should be expected.

The Army of the Potomac had SIX command changes over the course of a 4 year war.

(including Grant taking field command although George Meade was nominally still in charge)

That's what I am wondering. I assume bomb means gravity drop but can it really glide 90 miles?

It's a rocket launched glide bomb.

Though it's nice to have a continued insight into things, do we really NEED to announce every single thing we are not just doing, but planning on doing? I mean sure, the Russians also probably already know the basics like we are getting told here but at least keep them honest and working a little bit at it at least. Still not sure why we do this to this extent.

Not an expert by any means but looks air launched, at 90 miles it is barely out of range of S300 systems but well within range of S400.

It's a ground launched system. Uses a rocket to send up a glide bomb. Can be launched from HIMARs. I think some warheads have limited active guiding but I think the idea for now in that EW mess would be probably extending the strategic battlespace against static hubs.

GLSDB stands for ground launched small diameter bomb. SDB is intended for use from the air but they combined it with surplus rockets for a new capability they can fire from the HIMARS we already gave them.

As mentioned above, it looks like we are warning Russia before their use, yet again.

Thank you for the explanation, the weapon system in the picture kind of looked like a Storm shadow which is why I said that

Lots of air defense icons and reports of explosions in Crimea the last hour or two on LiveUaMap. I'm guessing a large drone attack by Ukraine.

Posted in the UV Blog. Queen Drone Capability.

Saw a demo today of a large quad drone carrying smaller quad drones. The large one was carrying eight smaller ones, and would drop them in a off-vector mode, then act as a relay to control them. Supposedly this system is already being used, but is the first time I have seen it. They did not go into the control method, or even the type of drones used, guess that is on the QT. If it takes one person per micro drone +one for the main, then that is pretty resource intensive, but it does increase range and allows for a quick strike from multiple elements in-close where the target can be seen and accurately targeted.
Do you think it's ok to post this information?
There were many people there, and no warnings about disclosure. It may already be a known, not sure.
Ah, Chris just said it has been published before. The main is called a queen drone.
OK thanks Chris.

I saw some Russian commentary on the drone relays. Didn't realize the smaller drones were piggy backing on the larger ones however.

I know the relays have been going on for a while and I read this as its still in R&D but adds a whole new capability. Like a drone squad with various roles and munition types, from a downrange deployment.

They should be using winged drones (rc planes) for relays instead of quad copters.
