The president of Belarus said Monday that Russia has completed its shipments of tactical nuclear weapons to his country, an initiative that raised strong concerns in neighboring Poland and elsewhere in the region.

President Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting of a Moscow-led economic bloc in St. Petersburg that the shipments were completed in October, but he did not give details of how many weapons were sent or where they have been deployed.

Tactical nuclear weapons, which are intended for use on the battlefield, have a short range and a low yield compared with much more powerful nuclear warheads fitted to long-range missiles. Russia said it would maintain control over those it sends to Belarus.

Lukashenko has said that hosting Russian nuclear weapons in his country is meant to deter aggression by Poland, a NATO member. Poland is offering neighbor Ukraine military, humanitarian and political backing in its struggle against Russia's invasion and is taking part in international sanctions on Russia and Belarus.

Russia set out to reduce nato influence and only increases their size. Definitely the hallmark of a country getting stronger.

Would not be surprised if the Poles haven't already started a nuclear bomb program in response.

Why? Nuclear-armed US, UK and France already have the Pole's back in NATO.

Anyway, there's no way the Kremlin trusts Belorussia enough to give it the nuclear release keys/codes for the Russian weapons on its soil and if Putin wanted to use nukes he doesn't need Lukashenko to do it.

This is psyops aimed at unnerving Western publics by "raising the cost" of supporting Ukraine.

Yeah because the US has never renegged on a promise made to an ally or client country like a half dozen others.

Agree 100%. Ultimately the only way to really guarantee your safety in an anarchy / might makes right situation is to go nuclear. And living next door to those complete turds I def would want them.

But it's challenging as if Russia gets wind they will frame it as Polish aggression, potentially pretense as first strike situation a la Yom Kippur Egypt to Israel. Unlikely and hopefully not.

ETA: not YK, 6 days war.

Reload canisters, very possibly. They come in sets of 4 preload tubes like this, and I assume there is a small crane or hydraulic device that pulls the rack of empties off a launcher and attacked a rack of reloads. They come in racks of 4 like this, and the launch vehicle can vary really, as long as there is an erector to elevate the missiles into launch position. I think there are both tracked and wheeled launchers.
Fwiw, we transport a lot of our gear on flatbed trucks behind the lines. Much easier on the roads and the equipment itself.

Drones/mines hammering vehicles and then calling artillery on dismounted infantry or recovery efforts. Nations without very advanced drone defenses will be rendered largely immobile at to be front in these conditions, though that may change as this keeps evolving I am sure.

With all the speculation about F16s downing those Russian fighters, here is a 4 month old video summarizing their capabilities in Ukrainian hands.

The baud rate in the video is a little low but the biggest benefit will be the use of harm missiles in modes other than the pre-programmed mode Ukraine is using when strapped to their Soviet era fighters.

Oops! Another accidental death by falling out of window:

Quote:

Vladimir Egorov, 46, who was a member of Putin's ruling United Russia party, plunged 30 feet to his death at his home in the town of Tobolsk, located in the western Siberian region of Tyumen Oblast. Media outlet Baza reported on its Telegram channel that Egorov's body was discovered Wednesday afternoon in the courtyard of a house and that police are investigating what caused his death.

Very good video that summarizes why we are where we are in the world today and after examining all the options it's critical that we support Ukraine against Russia. It's about 30 minutes long, but well worth the watch.

intersting that everything was air launched

Somewhat surprisingly, the raid didn't appear to involve any ship- or submarine-launched Kalibr cruise missiles, with Russian long-range bombers bearing the brunt of the operation.

Ukrainian air defense shot down 27 of 36 Shahed drones, and 87 of 90 Kh-101 missiles, launched by Russia. Also Russia used 5 Kh47-m2 missiles, 4 anti-radiation Kh-31P missiles, 1 Kh-59, at least 14 ballistic missiles(S-300/S-400 or Iskander), 8 Kh-22 missiles
