ironically, Prigozhin is running his own 3 day special military operation. Will he match Putin's success?

Posted 8 hours ago, but a very good recap of the coup so far

Does his whole plan revolve around what Kadyrov does? Do the Chechens sit back and wait to see what happens or do they actively clash with Wagner and try to stop them? That will be interesting.

Anyone have a clue as to what other force is between Wagner and Moscow that could potentially stop them? If it's just Nat Guard and police units I would imagine the hardened Wagner Group will cut right through that on their way to the Kremlin.

Current thru 6AM EST.

The Law of Unintended Consequences is running amok in Russia today.

Congratulations, Vlad, you are still a master strategist.

Unless they have a lot more coming than the handful of APCs and urals in that video, they don't have a way to do anything. Not that they have up to now anyway other than propaganda videos.

I am guessing they will make many TikTok videos of themselves shooting wildly into nothing in a location geoconfirmed to be nowhere near Rostov, and then claim that they have dealt a death blow to the traitors on behalf of mother Russia.

Fingers crossed that the news soon reaches Russian troops dug into southern Ukraine.

Civil war in eastern Russia from where all their logistics comes will be unsettling at the very least.

Ukrainian forces recaptured territory in the country's east that had been held by Russia since 2014, according to Kyiv's military. Valeriy Shershen, a military spokesman in the Donetsk region, said "several positions" near Krasnohorivka in the Donetsk region had been reclaimed, Ukrinform, a state-funded news agency, reported.

It will be interesting to see if Russia feels the need to pull some troops out of Ukraine to stabilize the situation in Russia. I think that's the million dollar question right now.

But worse than that, Rostov on Don is the logistical hub for the Russian operations. The Russian Army will have to reroute their supplies through Crimea if this lasts very long. Within a week Russia's front line soldiers will be out of food and ammo.

A video has been posted by someone claiming to be in the 1st bag, 217bat, 98th Guards airborne infantry division (Currently in Belarus and northern Ukraine) is claiming the unit has defected to the Wagnerites.
Also calls the Chechen Kadyrovites a bunch of "donkey-f***ers
I am a bit doubtful about the authenticity as the 98th does not use AK-74 base version, but AK-74M or AK-12. It is possible of course that they dug into their spare equipment or a battlefield pickup. He is also wearing a Ukrainian MM-14 camo set....

Also some Chechens got captured in Rostov already (not uploaded by me)

Will be more interesting to see if they can keep those troops supplied while Wagner is roaming around their rear gathering up supplies and the Russian MOD is busy bombing their fuel depots to keep them out of Wagner's hands.

Should a firefight occur in moscow, do the military units tasked with protecting moscow and the high command have any real combat experience?

Obviously the aircrews are combat experienced but given the losses of their comrades may find some empathy for Pgons cause.

Assuming no combat experience for ground units, they may lay down arms at the first sight of blood.

I would imagine that they want to allow some time for the news to spread and for the Russian units in the front line to contemplate their next move. As long as the Russians are preoccupied with internal politics and not taking advantage of a pause to resupply, then it seems that the Ukrainians have nothing to lose by waiting. As Napoleon once said, "Never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake."

Wagner forced reported in Moscow oblast proper moving along the M4 highway.

The only units in permanently stationed in Moscow proper are the 38th signal, 1128 Guards artillery, 1st guards mobile air defense brigades of the VDV alongside the 4th Guards armored division (In Ukraine), 2nd Guards motor-rifle division (in Ukraine), 27th guards motor rifle brigade (in Ukraine), Kremlin regiment (secret service and ceremonial), 154th ICR (Ceremonial), 2nd Guards motor rifle division (in Ukraine).
So yeah, the only unit that's going to properly be equipped to fight tanks and is at full strength there is going to be the 154th regiment and they don't see combat plus whatever gets there before Wagner.

My guess is Putin either went to St. Petersburg or Mumuransk where the Western/northern military district is headquartered.

Which is what makes video clips so important. It's hard to deny what's being recorded in real time.

See what I wrote. Most of the units that have seen front line combat units are deployed in part or whole in Ukraine, or aren't front line troops. That being said, maybe some VDV units are going to get to Moscow before Wagner (they're supposed to be airmobile) and the FSB spetznaz units are missing (they have significant experience in Chechnya)... The old "internal troops" (National Guard) don't have heavy weaponry like tanks and are more like riot police armed with RPGs and vehicles armed with 30mm auto cannons and automatic grenade launchers.
As to the VVS, apparently the Russians moved all their CAS to the Ukrainian conflict and there's only fighters in the area, sure they can do ground attack but that then exposes fighters which Russia has few of to the low-mid level AA net Wagner has. I think there was a SU-35 doing runs in around Vorzneh the other day. That and a Ka-52 doing runs while dodging AA missiles.

Wait for there to be a clear and serious risk to the regime and watch them choose to pull back significant forces and try to retain power, rather than leave them in Ukraine and chance losing their heads.
