Deep down, I still feel like Prigozhun is a Putin loyalist; he just wants to liquidate all the leads of the military.
it may have started that way

but in this morning's address to the world Putin called him a traitor to Mother Russia

I don't think there is any way back from either

Prigozhin ends up dead or Putin is taken out by a coup d'etat

Please let this be true/accurate. Ukraine couldn't ask for a better opportunity to mount another offensive.

Exactly
let's not pop champagne corks yet boys

let's say Prigozhin emerges victorious.

NO ONE knows how he would govern.

He has called in the past for an unrelenting successful war against Ukraine. he is a Russian nationalist after all.

or he could state he needs the army in Russia to rebuild.

we just don't know what can happen here.

IF that is is true that is unbelievable news

look at the height that the AN26 was taken out! it took a minute 20 seconds to fall to the ground.

and look at the location on the map: Voronezh!

which means not only is Wagner half way to Moscow but they can take out high flying combat aircraft.

For now let's keep these threads together - one is a result of the other, and the impact of the Russian chaos impacts the war in Ukraine. At least for the next few days?

So I was explaining all of this stuff to my son through the lens of 1918, 1989, etc in Russian history. If this is happening you are watching history right before your eyes. His 15 year old mind's comment, "Dad, what the hell is Biden going to do, the guy is a moron." (please don't ban me, I actually get to a point)

Made me think. This is also a time for decisive and prudent action on the part of the US and NATO. I don't think we want this "new boss" to be running the show over there. He actually sounds worse than the "old boss."

What would you say the prudent thing for the US and NATO to do considering what is going on? I think in the chaos Ukraine is going to be able to take care of itself.

just like in 1917 there is nothing the United States can do.

I guarantee 98% of the American population has no idea that American troops fought in the Russian Civil War:

United States Forces involved in North Russia Expeditionary Force (also known as the Polar Bear Expedition):

approximately 5,000 personnel from the US Army,[28] including the:
310th Engineers,
339th Infantry,
337th Field Hospital,
and 337th Ambulance Company.

Also the 167th and 168th Railroad Companies, which were sent to Murmansk to operate the Murmansk to Petrograd line.

US Navy: the cruiser USS Olympia during August and September 1918 (including 53 personnel attached to British naval units)

doesn't sound like Putin is fooling around.

Prigozhin better hope some more of the Russian security services defect to his side or he is in heap big trouble.

Video surfaced of a Ka-52 evading missiles in Lipetsk oblast on the M-4, which is about 465km or 290mi from Moscow.

Edit:Kadyrovites (the Chechens) have stated they will fight those who endanger Russia's safety, whatever that means. Most likely Wagner but you never know since that's pretty ambiguous.

certainly seems that Prigozhin has planned out this entire coup in great detail.

I hope so, just to keep the Russian military bogged down around Moscow rather than in Kherson oblast.

Looks like they don't trust the citizens to not try and take them out.

You'd hate to see it if that happened.

Have a friend who left Russia in 1993 from St Petersburg. She was going back this week to see her family and is stuck in Lisbon, Portugal. She said her family is locked in their hoise and Russian Military is in the streets.

I agree I don't see this lasting more than a couple days. If you want a successful insurrection/civil war you have to have powerful players backing your cause. It appears at the moment Prigozhin is acting alone with no major national elements behind him.

The main reason I hope Ukraine takes advantage of this calamity in Russia is that Prigozhin has demonstrated strategic thought and better tactics than the current Russian leadership. Should he actually topple Putin I have no doubts he's going to press on in Ukraine.

I am not 100% on every detail, but from what I've seen I don't think so. Could definitely be wrong though.

There has been one that openly supported Prigozhin, I read the quote a few hours ago but not sure how much support that is from an exiled Oligarch. PMC is going to need Russian military units to switch sides and Russian intelligence to back him I would think.
