Hmmm, Don't think can happen but who knows. (should say they can apply, but I don't think they would be accepted at this point.)
On Live UA and several 2nd hand tweets now.
NATO will absolutely not do this. At least not yet. Georgia also would not be accepted currently as a full member. It would be tantamount to declaring war on Russia for the whole organization. Not happening.
I agree, tend to think at this point it is symbolic, and more geared to "after" the war. If it is true they are applying at all.
I think even if the Russians lose that Ukraine being part of NATO might represent a bright red line. Maybe in the chaos if Putin goes down it's possible but if I'm the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Turkey or Spain I'd be really wary of doing this. It makes sense from the Baltics, Poland, Balkan country perspectives. Maybe Finland and Sweden too. But for anyone really West of Poland I don't think it's a great idea. Not they aren't worthy of entry? I mean would the Ukes be a stronger member than say Austria or Belgium? Yeah, clearly. But I think that's not in the Alliance's best interest any time soon. Better to make them an associate and deep ties and integrations, joint training exercises, integration into defense standards and equipment synergies all that but you can do a lot to sync up without admitting them.
