Ultimately if russia has the the east and the south they don't care about the north. Russian can effectively slow bleed to death, Ukraine by controlling the line from Luhansk to Donetsk to Dnipro down along the Dneiper river all the way to the Black Sea and around to the west through Odesa. They will be cut off from the Black sea, Crimea will have fresh water, and russia will have stolen all the agriculture and O&G in this area where its already most concentrated. They will also have several mines and any steel factories they haven't ****ing destroyed.Rossticus said:as an aside, kind of wild that russia never took kharkiv, which is *right there* by the border

Sorry, I agree with you, and maybe that came off as being histrionic and I didn't intend it to be. I am firmly in the corner of giving the Ukes what they need to stop the RussiansAgLA06 said:Quote:

Thanks! I rarely endorse anything, but after them pulling off deliveries in Mariupol, I felt it was time to see if it appealed to this thread.TH36 said:

Interesting article in the British press on hypersonic missile capability....

Putin's panic as NASA makes killer AI for hypersonic missiles capable of wiping out armies
NASA has given the West a major boost in the hypersonic missile arms race using artificial intelligence.
By CHARLES HARRISON 16:35, Thu, Apr 28, 2022 | UPDATED: 18:41, Thu, Apr 28, 2022
The latest hypersonic missiles are reportedly so complex they require a computer to build them, and NASA has created an AI to do just that. Hypersonic missiles travel at over Mach 5 (3,836mph), meaning they can strike anywhere on the planet within an hour of being launched. These devastating weapons can carry nukes and avoid almost all missile defence systems as they cannot react fast enough, all while operating with a high level of precision.
But due to the large amount of power and fuel required to reach these high speeds, their application has so far been limited by relying on using rockets.
However, writes tech writer Will Lockett, an alternative option is a "scramjet".
Scramjet stands for supersonic combustion ramjet, and works exactly the same as a jet on a plane, but with no moving parts.
Mr Lockett explains: "In a typical jet a turbine compresses the incoming air, fuel is then injected and ignited, which then forces the air out of the jet, creating thrust. But a scramjet does away with the turbine.
"Instead, it uses the craft's speed to ram air into the combustion chamber with sufficient pressure to get optimal combustion.
"This makes them far more efficient and powerful than an average jet."....

2/ Weather Impact. The 10-day forecast for eastern Ukraine favors Russian offensive operations. Partly cloudy skies will not degrade VKS sorties or UAV operations. Higher temps (16-21 C) will start to dry out areas with extensive mud, slightly improving offroad movement. pic.twitter.com/Mt8Y9vrwao

It was April. #Russian artillerymen came to the #Ukrainian steppes on a special operation, with malice in their little hearts.
One early morning, however, their trip was abruptly cut short when they neglected to secure their rear.

Summary of the night: about 15-20 #Russian KIAs, and an unknown number of armored vehicles and artillery that got spotted and accurately hit with #ZSU artillery. The frontline is certainly more active than two weeks ago.

In the occupied Kiselivka (Chornobayiv village community of Kherson region) there was a shootout between the Russian military of Chechen and Buryat nationality. More than 50 participants from each side took part in the night incident. The exact number of wounded and dead is currently unknown.
The causes of interethnic conflict are the reluctance of the Buryats to conduct offensive hostilities and "inequality" of conditions with the Chechens. The latter are not at the forefront at all, remaining in the rear only as "barricading detachments". Their task is to encourage the occupying forces to take active action. That is, open fire on those who are trying to retreat.
Another reason is the uneven distribution of loot. The main "profit" from looting is received by the same Chechens.
Due to the unwillingness to take part in the offensive, a conflict arose between the commanders and personnel of the Russian Armed Forces in the occupied Fedorovka, Zaporizhia region. Russians are complaining to locals about cheating when signing contracts and obtaining consent to take part in hostilities.
It turned out that the Russian contractors were promised an operation under the "Crimean scenario". That is, the lack of resistance from Ukraine, the allocation of housing in the occupied territories and a quiet service.
Seeing the real picture, many Russians refused to continue their service. This led to a conflict, which was resolved by the FSB. Some of the servicemen were taken away in an unknown direction after interrogations. They did not return to the place of service.

A thread.
Ukraine has reportedly taken over Ruska Lozova
— Samuel Ramani (@SamRamani2) April 29, 2022
If confirmed, its a big development, as it could disrupt Russia's ability to strike Kharkiv and supply movements from Belgorod
This is a clear statement of intent by the UK, and would only have been made if it was felt that other NATO allies could and would sign up to it.
— Dr Mike Martin ⛵️ (@ThreshedThought) April 29, 2022
It’s very welcome after some wishy washy thinking about strategic aims (although the activities were good).
Also means that NATO and the US have decided that Putin is bluffing about using Nukes if NATO up the ante.
