That's what happens when your military budget has billions of dollars siphoned off of it for yachts, foreign villas, etc. Lots of upgrades don't happen.

It's a sign of desperation and shortage of equipment and trained personnel. This war is wholly different than what has occurred in the ME. Those things will get shredded from the jump unless they plan to use them for terrorizing civilians or straggling light infantry.

Oh, agreed on the draining of resources side. Just saying - the Marine Corps downgraded from tanks. Mud. Maintenance. Terrain limitations. Expense. Consumption. Asymmetry concerns. SpecOps get called badasses for rocking civilian trucks and dune buggies.

I have great love for Oshkosh vehicles, but if you know that using those MRAPS and Armadillo 7-Tons will cannalize you into an IED laden ambush: you lighten up and go around.
Maybe that's an unarmored vehicle. Maybe it's a foot patrol. Maybe it's jacking a civilian vehicle. Maybe it's hoping over in a helo.

We've been laughing at how much armor Russia has been losing - let's all agree that armor isn't going to do it for them here. Whether it's desperation or intelligence - I'd be much happier in a fleet of bongo trucks bouncing across fields than getting my slow convoy shape-charged on a road as I'm forced through obvious choke points.

I'd say more likely the perimeter is so small that the Russians can't use indirect fire so the major shelling has stopped and the defenders either decided to try to slip out and try to escape and fight another day or have gone underground…literally.

Actually, in a war of attrition, assuming the value Putin puts on his conscript's lives, these may be cheaper than the shells UKR will use to blow them up.

Although, UKR isn't paying for the most of its expensive ammo.
