Found some grotesque pictures of many civilians killed in overnight bombings. Won't post.

And this is what they're putting out at the same time. Sickening. These kind of people don't belong in this world.

Quote:

The tactic of siege-plus-humanitarian corridor, they say, essentially gives residents a brutal choice between fleeing into the arms of their attackers or dying under bombardment.

They said the offer also gives an illusion of legitimacy to the mass slaughter of civilians who remain behind once the siege resumes in full force.

"It is not like Russia can create a humanitarian corridor for two days and then say, 'Well, we've done our job, now we can destroy everything,'" said Sara Kayyali, Syria researcher for Human Rights Watch.

What the war in Syria tells about Russia's use of humanitarian corridors

When NPR is calling the Russians out on their "humanitarian corridor" lies, then you have to know that it's just a cynical ruse to kill civilians.

Sounds like Russia trying to filter out the people loyal to Ukraine vs open/loyal to Russia. He may treat the refugees who come to Russia like kings as part of the propaganda effort.

Evil, but cunning.

I posted this on the other thread.

It's older footage, I had already seen the end result video but I think this one is just getting out there and making the rounds.

There is no excuse to target civilians the way Russia is doing.

We've been seeing this for a week as they were attaching civilian trucks as small as sprinter vans on flatbed/tank transporter rail cars to help supply the their forces. A lot harder to get across bad roads and alot alot harder to transport fuel that way. If (and it's a big if) the Ukes can hold Kharkiv for another 2 weeks and Mariupol for a week and contain the breakout in the South then the Russians are going to have some monstrous supply problems even worse than now. They're having a lot fewer abandonment of equipment but the captured number is going to sky rocket. If you want to buy scrap metal Ukraine this time next year might be your market.

I get the desire to revel in this (Russian military poverty = good), but many a war has been won by a force who improvises & adapts. Our nation's highlight reel includes many images which would elicit civilian snark.

I just get a sense that many folks are gleefully dancing on Putin's grave while he's still very much alive and it concerns me that these attitudes will help to get us drawn into an unwise position.

This. Ukraine army has been made out to be a scrappy fighter, but riding in a dump truck means Russians ain't acting like redcoats.

I don't argue with the initiative and value of the troops on the ground improvising to continue their mission / survive, but for the general populace, this would be good propaganda.

It's a pretty tall stretch to make a positive out of the idea of Russian soldiers riding around in dump trucks. Thats not "adapting on the battlefield" for a modern mechanized "superpower" military. Thats an admission that dump trucks are the best thing you have left available in your inventory or that dump trucks are somehow actually performing better at being military vehicles than all the vehicles you built for your military.

The question is why have the Russians had the need to bring in civilian vehicles to fulfill their mission needs

Is it a reliability issue? Have they had so much loss that the dump trucks were the easiest/quickest solution? Is there a more nefarious use for them like sabotage?

It will be telling to see how this equipment is fielded by the russians.

How is your BIL doing in Mauripol?
You're thinking of Spaceship. He has a BIL in Melitopol.

Thanks for asking. They are doing okay - the city has remained relatively peaceful. Two large aid trucks arrived today, apparently from Russia (Crimea), with food and a gesture to the Ukrainian people to those who tolerate the Russian occupation with relatively low resistance get rewarded…

He said all the police have basically fled and so some locals have banded together to create a citizens police group to monitor the streets, keep the peace, etc. Apparently looting is a big problem right now.

With this power plant near disaster tonight only being 60 miles away from Melitopol, I'm wondering if it gets shut down and they lose power indefinitely. Hopefully not.

My BIL there firmly believes Ukraine will ultimately prevail and win this. My 80 year old Ukrainian father-in-law here in the US firmly believes Russia will. It's a interesting dichotomy.

Spaceship, how are things with your BIL in Melitopol? Things still relatively peaceful in Melitopol? Power, water, heat still on?

They don't have enough logistical support in regular forces to conduct a deep penetration attack away from established forward operating bases more than a few days, and what they did have has taken tremendous losses, so they are attempting to improvise.

Logistics is terribly hindering the Russian attack, they don't have food and fuel, hence they keep abandoning vehicles where they have overextended and retreating on foot.

My point is that we should curb our enthusiasm. Something can be a good sign while still falling short of being indicative of victory. There are folks getting whipped into a frenzy over this thing. Covid, BLM, Ukraine, Russian collusion, orange man bad, etc: a person who lets their emotions outrun their skepticism will follow puppet masters.

Russia still has the upper hand but I read today it's costing putin 650 million per day for this war. I presume that's that cost of fighting plus the cost of sanctions.

Further, it appear both armies now have a roughly equal amount of personnel in country. The ukes just need to keep stretching this out for as long as they can.

But where are these guys. The weird thing about all of these abandoned and shot up RU vehicles is there are no video of captured or killed troops. And if they are making it back to other units what's happening to them there? Are they being shot by RU for deserting? Its very strange that there are no video or pics of RU soldiers.
