Any word on whether their markets will actually open this week, or are they on indefinite lockdown?

If they have control of the ISPs then yes they can. Kazakhstan just did it in January and Egypt did it 11 years ago. I'm sure there are more examples.

If this is true, then you will shortly start seeing mass numbers of Russians DEFECTING to Ukraine. It's the next logical step.

Is that even possible?

Yup, all handled by the "." SOA. "." Servers basically run the web as they are the first step in DnS. Nightmare for dev and IT as well they'll probably just use .ru. But you can still get there by ip (like the dark web) so they'll have to do some crazy lvl of geo fencing at the international routers. This is just me spitballing as port monitoring is much easier than going scortched earth and shutting off outside traffic. Good luck blocking vpn and proxies.

This is pretty ignorant bc it wont do anything to apps like telegram, signal, and so on.

Looks like the Ukrainians are effecting some counter battery fire, and won this round. Love to see it

That is very, very good. Those D-30s were obviously (to me) located by counter-battery radar or a drone and the Ukrainians concentrated a LOT of fire on that location very suddenly. The ground is so torn up that the guy is having difficulty walking across all the shell craters. There isn't even a blade of grass visible across all those acres and the trees in the background have been completely denuded like the pictures of the western front in WW I. It looks like the Ukrainians used a mix of point detonating (because of the engine blocks removed from the truck chasses) and airburst fuzing.

If the Ukrainians are able to rapidly displace to a new firing position after firing counter battery missions they can survive and beat their Russian artillerist opponents. At this point it seems doubtful that the Russians even bothered to send counter battery radar with their battalions because they thought it would be a one sided fight. The Russian ability to use radio comms to coordinate fire support for maneuver units or counter battery fires has not been evident in anything I have read so far.

I hope that they get some of these Ukrainian artillerists to lecture at Ft Sill. They have a lot to teach us about this fight.

Do any of those cannons look like they are still in operable position? Would be a pretty nice catch if so. I'm not smart enough to tell from the video.

The breeches and tubes are probably fine but the fire control devices for leveling and aiming them will need to be replaced. Interestingly, none of the guns are flipped over and they all appear to be laying on the azimuth of fire with the tubes still close to parallel.

The hydraulic cylinders (on top of the gun tube under the shroud) that absorb the recoil probably got ruptured on a few of them but these are commodity items in the former eastern bloc. The Ukrainians have those parts somewhere if they want to put them in action. There are a lot of usable 122mm projectiles laying on the ground that can be salvaged if the Ukrainians need them. If this drags out for a long time I expect they will want to salvage that type of materiel.

1) the ground cover, that was a plowed field hence no grass and difficulty
2) utility of those guns... doubtful. IF they could be safely fired would they be actuate?
3) were the trucks 100% festering because they were gaming the munitions? Powder bags/ charges and the HE shells?

Ukraine had hundreds of D-20's and D-30's in their inventory to start this war. I'm not sure another 9 or so possibly damaged are terribly useful

I discussed this tactic three days ago that the Ukes need to set up 100 hunter killer squads armed with Javelins and NLAWs, 6 men with 2 gunners and 4 heavily armed overwatch. have them use ATV to drive all the way up the western side of the Kyiv pocket, every mile there is a HK team, they ingress in during the night and either they have NVG to strike in darkness or they launch as soon as the dawn starts, then egress back to their vehicles.

if they are spaced every mile they can permanently halt that column

then move them south to cut the head off the Dnipro advance

we really have been focusing on the war aspect of this invasion and if Kyiv can hold out.

we haven't even started to analyze how much combat experience these Uke forces are gaining over the last 12 days- and how lethal they will be once this turns into a long term guerilla insurgency.

the Ukes may have more combat experience by the time this is over than the occupying forces. that has to be chilling for the Russkie High Command

Or it could be the Russians have not accounted for the land based Neptune anti-ship missiles that Ukraine is reported to have.

A battery of these could really ruin a ship captain's day.

Not that I want to see it, but most of these videos of destroyed or ambushed vehicles have no opposition force personal anywhere in them. Are they just destroying abandoned equipment? I would expect either captured, wounded, or dead combatants. Even if the Russians ran they wouldn't take everyone.
