For those wanting some information on hypersonic missiles and who has them and who is already using them this article explains it pretty well. Looks like the US may be behind on these type weapons, but that tells me we probably have other options on the table

Russia continues to pound Kyiv. At least 15 people killed. Every winter has been tough on ordinary Ukrainians, but with almost no Patriot missiles remaining to defend against ballistic missiles, I wonder if their morale might finally crack this time.

"The attack was massive. The Russians prepared for a long time and combined different types of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones to inflict as much damage as possible on civilian infrastructure."

"The main direction of the attack was the Kyiv region," the air force wrote in a post to Telegram. It added that 41 cruise missiles of various types and 145 drones were shot down or otherwise suppressed, with munitions reported impacting across 28 locations."

Ukraine is now anticipating massive ballistic missile attacks numbering in the hundreds.

"Russia is racing to nearly triple its biggest missile barrage, from 77 missiles fired at once to as many as 200, a salvo built to overwhelm Ukraine's air defenses in one shot rather than over days, the commander of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces said last week."

This leaves Patriot missiles in allied nations' stocks as the only potential resource Ukraine has to defend its cities.

"If [the United States] can sell us 5% (of its missiles), we will go through the winter and save people's lives," Zelenskyy said last week. "If they can sell us 10%, we will destroy all the Russians' ballistic missiles. I have 1%."

Zelenskyy is freaking out at this point because he knows the US and NATO have Patriot missiles that could help Ukraine, what he doesn't understand is that their is limited supply of these missiles (because of how many the US/NATO gave them already) and the remaining Patriots are their to protect our own counties. Unless we can quickly produce more of them then they may not get as many as they need for a while.

I wish we could help Ukraine more but we need to protect ourselves first.

This needless war and all the killings needs to end

It's also in Zelenskyy's best interests to frame things in as dire a light to Ukraine as he can in order to pressure the US and Europe for maximum support.

When you have dozens of ballistic missiles a week dropping on civilian buildings in your capital city, I don't think "framing things in a dire light" is really too far off from reality.

Germany is seeking to extradite a suspect from Romania over the discovery of an underground stash of weapons in a forest near Berlin that German media reports have linked to Russian intelligence.

Two weeks after German authorities found a drone carrying explosives at Leipzig airport, the interior minister, Alexander Dobrindt, confirmed federal prosecutors had opened an investigation related to the secret cache of guns "on suspicion of preparing a serious act of violence that threatens national security"

Are we trying to avoid giving them a reason to destroy Elon's satellites? Plus, introducing debris into that lower orbit would be a disaster.

I don't think there's anything Russia can do about 11,000 starlink satellites in orbit

Even if the could do something… it would be matched by the US, eye for eye . Shoot US satellites, we shoot yours

The problem is that they don't have to hit 11000. They have to hit a dozen or so and the debris generated will wipe out a bunch more. They do have killersats that can hit them. How many, who knows.

The biggest problem I continue to see is that we're far more worried about what they may do than they are of what we may do in response. That tells you a lot.

Yeah. It feels like there should have been a much stronger response to their various war crimes, even early in the war. But with half of Europe dependent on Russia for the energy, they were always going to have to mute their responses.

Necessity is the mother of invention. So is desperation.

"In another effort to advance robotic warfare, Ukraine is working to turn Soviet-era BRDM-2 armored reconnaissance vehicles into remotely controlled systems. The move comes as uncrewed ground vehicles (UGVs) are playing an increasing role on both sides of the conflict as movement along the front lines has been highly contested by the ubiquity of aerial drones."

It's going to be an especially tough winter for Ukraine with no means now to defend its cities against BM attacks.

Maybe we could have the decency to give them the means or at least the locations to destroy the launchers.

With Ukraine and Russia being significant agricultural exporters, the global downstream effect of the disintegration of those sources could be ugly.

Russia and Ukraine together produce roughly one-quarter (about 25%) of the world's total grain exports, including around 27% of global wheat, 19% of corn, and over 50% of sunflower oil.

Per Gemini. That's a lot of food supply to go missing. Famine looks like a very real outcome.

The Behemoth is a good example of Ukraine's mass production of combat drones. That's a nasty combo warhead, btw.

"The drone has a wingspan of 2.28 meters (7.5 feet), a length of 2.2 meters (7.2 feet) and a height of 0.5 meters (1.6 feet). Its stated range is up to 300 km (186 miles). The airframe carries two warheads in sequence: a 40 kg (88-pound) high-explosive fragmentation charge in the nose, followed by a 35 kg (77-pound) thermobaric charge, for a combined payload of roughly 75 kg (165 pounds)."
