According to reports from Taiwan's United Daily News (UDN), US Army Green Berets from the 1st Special Forces Group are now permanently stationed at bases of the 101st Amphibious Reconnaissance Battalion, a Taiwanese army special operations force, located in outlying island counties of Penghu and Kinmen.
In 1937 there were people worried about the build up of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. It's like the rapture and UFO disclosure and aggie national championships and everything else, it's always "just around the corner" except it never happens.Joes said:
I still think all of this is very overdramatic. There's lots of chaos, but there's always lots of chaos. I was "guaranteed" during the build up for Desert Storm well over 30 years ago that all the western countries fighting in the Middle East at a large scale would trigger WW3, judgement day, cats and dogs living together, etc. as well.
But yeah yeah, I know, this is different because it's happening now.
I predict a year from now and then five years from now this thread will still be saying that it's imminent. It's like the rapture and UFO disclosure and aggie national championships and everything else, it's always "just around the corner" except it never happens.
I know very well about all that, history is one of my passions. Ok fine, it's not about it never happening again, it's about it never happening when it's supposed to and the stupidity of predicting when. It would be like starting a thread specifically about concerns about the Yellowstone super volcano. Yes, it's happened before, and it will likely happen again at some point. Mathematically we're past due, but it could happen this afternoon or not for another 100,000 years.ttu_85 said:In 1937 there were people worried about the build up of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan. So brave yet so blind. The old, I'm bad ass and ya'll scared for no reason tough guy poster.
Well in 1939 something happened and the Aggies won a championship. As you said it NEVER happens except when it does. Repeat for 1914, 1861, 1870
Well Jesus himself said "only my father in heaven knows when it ends". So pegging it exactly is beyond the ability of mere man. However reading tea leaves-- political, economic currents, demographic trends, and ques is within our purview-- though not remotely an exact science.Joes said:I know very well about all that, history is one of my passions. So with this WW3 nonsense for people to say "I see it coming now because..." is silly because it's just not possible to know that. I'll be 56 in 2 weeks and it's been "about to happen" my entire life and that doesn't count the Berlin Airlift and Korea and the Cuban missile crisis and other scarier things that could have triggered it before I was even here. What I'm saying is these "I see the signs" things are silly.
What in the world is with your hostility? I'm not blind, I'm very tuned in and I see everything happening that you do. This "beginning of WW3" thread is over two years old. But I guess if someone predicts a thing to happen every single day and you live long enough eventually you might be right. I guess I'll just predict that the Cowboys will win the Super Bowl and I'll come back next year or the next year or maybe 38 years from now and say I saw it coming when it happens. It's not about me being blind, it's about others here who think they're omniscient.ttu_85 said:Well Jesus himself said "only my father in heaven knows when it ends". That said if you dont see truly potential era changing, destabilizing, problems in the world today your are as blind as a bat. Yet even that doesn't mean for sure that it hits the fan. But flat out implying all is "normal" as you have is 'head in the sand and ass in the air' denial.
Also, August 1945 was still fresh in the minds of people in 1947 and 1962. But look at the rhetoric of today, people have forgotten what it really means. Today its nothing but an intellectual footnote.

Outgoing administration desperately trying to escalate this war, no?Quote:
President Biden approved Ukraine's military to use U.S.-provided long-range missiles on targets inside Russian territory, the New York Times reported Sunday, citing unnamed U.S. officials.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously said that such an escalation would constitute an act of war. He has yet to react to Biden's announcement Sunday.
