Who do you guys think is building houses, roads, and picking up your trash? Last Saturday it was cold and pouring down rain when they picked my trash up. Guarantee you they weren't legal except for maybe the driver.

ETA if illegals could work at the airport, there would be no problem with staffing.

Lost in the discussion about not paying far share on taxes... restaurant workers are notoriously bad at reporting tips.

Just thought it was a funny coincidence in this discussion... carry on.

No

Lenin was a big supporter of that message.

It was a huge part of the early beliefs of the party.

There are so many different things going on in the labor market you can't pinpoint one single reason as to why these jobs are still in short supply. It's a multitude of reasons all combining in a perfect storm. The term Great Reset would be more apt here in describing the labor market:

  • Unprecedented number of early retirements because of COVID savings, insane stock market, and housing inflation
  • Kids no longer work service jobs at near the rates they used to
  • Government benefits kept people out and continue to in some cases (WSJ - savings rate doubled during covid and some people are simply living off that still instead of working thereby just delaying their return)
  • People have shifted from service jobs to e-commerce jobs in massive numbers
  • People have shifted from brick-and-mortar service jobs to digital service jobs in massive numbers

Now add in the absolute pain in the ass it is to work a service job at an airport. If you can make equal pay doing the same job not at an airport it's a no brainer decision, simply from a logistics viewpoint.

Simple... beer vending machines.

And why even worry about ID... if you can vote without ID, you should be able to drink without ID.

One of my favorite quotes in history is from Trotsky:

Quote:

The old principle: who does not work shall not eat, has been replaced by a new one: who does not obey shall not eat.

Ironically, the first airport where I ever bought a beer out of a vending machine was at Beijing about 10 years ago. Foreshadowing.

I said freebies, not stimulus checks.

WIC, SNAP, Lonestar Cards, unemployment, rent relief, welfare, school lunches, Obama phones, all of it. Get rid of it all.

Last call for food and alcohol was at 6pm.

They have to close because they can't find workers and their cooks are already working "90 hours a week".

It's time to stop the insanity.

If we can't even find people in Texas to pour $12 pints, where are we headed from here?

So... For the second time today, I had to settle for McDonald's because they were open. Nuts.

Isn't this the free market though?

Pretty sure if they were paying $50 an hour to run the kitchen, they would not have a staffing issue. Granted, you may also be eating at McDonald's, because you don't care to pay the prices that support $50/hour minimum wage at this establishment.

What? You are completely nonsensical. If someone sacrifices their health for this country yes they should be taken care of. The large swaths of people who are committing fraud should be prosecuted.

Less than 1% have combat jobs yet their are millions on military benefits. They chose to go into that profession why should they get benefits for choosing to potentially be disabled. Socialism

No offense but a lot of you on here tell people who work jobs like this to quit if it doesn't pay enough or if they don't like it, then get upset when they do and now nobody wants to work them. If you were a true free market capitalist you would know that in order to get people to work these jobs they need to be compensated well enough, clearly they arent

FJB said so.
We should never cede the moral high ground to people who justify the debasement of society as reparative justice and then lie to us about how, why and even whether it’s
being destroyed from within.

Those all existed before the pandemic.

And really unemployment really? I busted my ass to find a new job after being laid off in an industry heavily impacted by COVID and that unemployment prevented me from going into debt or tapping into my savings while searching for a job.

BTW - this DFW experience was in contrast to my first flight yesterday where I flew from Panama City (NW Florida) to DFW.

In Panama City, FL, a colleague and I knocked back 4 - pre-flight beers for $36 (so $9 a piece) and left a $7.50 tip. But two hours later at DFW, I paid $12 for 1 beer and they closed the restaurant.

During my layover at DFW, I was prepared to spend $50 on a burger and some pre-flight drinks but there was no opportunity to do so at 6pm. So I spent $11 at McDonalds.

Sure, I'm not paying $50 for a McDonalds meal but... I'd gladly pay $50 for a burger/burrito/whatever when I'm traveling on business and it's getting reimbursed anyway. If I was traveling with kids on my own dime, we're probably doing Chicken McNuggets so the topic would never come up unless I was trying to grab a quick pre-flight beer.

No idea what a dog mom comment is, but encouraging child birth by making abortion illegal while denying assistance to low income families is backwards.

Not issues I feel strongly about, but I'm not the one ignoring a clear conflict in policy/platform.

There is no conflict at all. Just because Simeon is against federal government handouts doesn't mean they are against helping.

I would argue it's many libs who are anti family. They want government to give money away but they won't donate money or time.
