Problem is that Wisconsin gun laws are wonky and ambiguous. Arguments were going back and forth before the trial started. Judge was unclear what his feelings were, too.Ag_Wolverine said:

Kyle could have taken a baseball bat, a heavy chain, or a metal pole to defend himself but he used something he was not legally permitted to carry.
