He's now talking about pre-clearance review of voting practices under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. SCOTUS held that section is too restrictive against the states and is no longer in effect. It was struck down.

Garland just said he doesn't care that SCOTUS ruled it unconstitutional. That pretty much sums up his attitude about his unfettered powers as AG. We are now in John Mitchell/Nixon territory. It is not illegal if he does it.

DOJ's source for the "violence" against school board members is the letter from the SB Association. They have no independent verification. And Jordan tried to get him to admit that the letter was written to get the feds involved (they were all working together). But, he said that didn't happen. But it did.

Johnson was going on about Garland's support for the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to be passed by the Senate since it has already been passed by the House. What that act is designed to do is to get around the SCOTUS ruling declaring Section 5 unconstitutional (the pre-clearance clause).

This is all to use federal law to negate the voting integrity laws passed by some states recently.

Another little factoid that I picked up from McConnell this morning is that there is cherry picking going on. States with Dem governors that have even stricter restrictions are not being challenged.
