Okay, I can live those planes being used to ferry people from Doha to relieve pressure there but to not allow chartered flights in to pick up the dogs? Their charter, they can pick up the dogs and do a 30 minute turn around time. Hell, Southwest pilots do that crap daily. Fly in hot. Hot to the ramp. Un-azz the plane, re-azz the plane, pull away from the gate and run hot to that flight line. Wheels down to wheels up in 30-45.

Dogs with collars are not strays. And their new Chinese overlords have no problem eating them. Nor will starving Afghans very soon.

That photo just guts me. I've had two close friends widowed when we were all in our mid-twenties, one in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, and the aftermath of that is just indescribable. But both of them at least believed at the time, to some extent, that there was a greater purpose at play. A reason for their husbands to be in that place at that time. This is just To call it senseless is an absurd understatement. It could have so easily been avoided and I can't imagine how much more that adds to the grief of these families.

Yesterday a friend shared this encounter he had with one of the Marines who was escorting one of the fallen home. It's a really touching story. And a reminder that there are many young men and women who are have a tough road ahead as they try to cope with what they went through, most likely while also feeling that they were betrayed by being put into an impossible situation.

Some of her other tweets indicate long time western journos were forced to evac while some al Jazeera ones were not.
