Oh, I knew you were being sarcastic. I felt my reply was reinforcing it.BlackGoldAg2011 said:based on the responses to this I have clearly fallen victim to Poe's law and should have laid the sarcasm on a bit thicker. while i would absolutely hope this is the case, in no way do i think it is actually what is happening. We all saw what happened last time this man was in the white house and "red lines" were crossed.BlackGoldAg2011 said:Maybe the gov is being silent today to protect opsec for the massive, violent, reaction being set in motion right now in response to a direct attack on US soldiers after promise of safe passage..........will25u said:State Department briefing initially planned at 2.15 pm EST featuring U.S. Ambassador to UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield also cancelled. That's still 60 miles from the Kabul airport. I don't see how that helps. We don't have the manpower to hold the airport at Kabul. In the time it would take to get troops and equipment in to clear Bagram this will be over. We were dependent on Taliban keeping the peace and providing security.aviationag said:
For you who have the expertise and experience: can we possibly take back Bagram?
Edit: Apologies - I now see this same question and discussion is in an earlier post.
It might be more accurate to say a "Why America Failed" rather than fell per-se, unless you believe all the Left-liberals were literally foreign agents, its not so much a "fall".Joes said:

Evac to where?Agthatbuilds said:
Leave enough troops behind to evac via chopper.
There is no good way. Especially if they're still there on 8/31

I don't see how many more civilians get out. The military itself there is a very precarious position. If the security of the airport is in jeopardy, no aircraft will land. Then what do you do with the 5000+ US + unknown number of other country military members?
Damn, this **** pisses me the **** off.
The tactical situation was always stunningly bad and our options were severely limited from the get go. This could truly turn out to be a real siege. It is definitely in the realm of possibility. The only upside really is that Marines are no strangers to that and will acquit themselves well as they always do.
Just a question of whether the Taliban want to or not. The choice is entirely up to them. We aren't influencing a damn thing with them either.
As a veteran this is sooooo damn infuriating. I spent 4 years of my life over there in that hell hole(5 deployments 2 IQ, 2 AF), and now civilian and military members are losing their lives, and there are probably many more on the way. Such needless bull*****
If we leave all those American citizens there, it will be the worst military blunder in US history. Not to mention if the military members get stranded there.
I get that. My innocence died in Iraq and any chance of it coming back was murdered in Afghanistan. That was over a decade ago. And Marines are still dying in that ****hole. This has been some of the most frustrating weeks I have ever lived and there is absolutely nothing that says it won't get worse.
Just want to say thank you both for your service. Wish I had more to say that could help in any way. Can't imagine what y'all are even thinking right now. But that's all I got.
Thank you again

UPDATE from FoxNews - 10 US service members dead as a result of explosion at Abby gate.
52 Afghans killed.
My original thinking was they would give the Taliban a few extra pallets of cash to come in and do the crowd control at the airport, assuming the Taliban would love the positive propaganda aspect for them, but now I don't know. The Taliban might not be able to resist a bloodbath and modern day Stalingrad for American forces.agsalaska said:
What I cant figure out is how, exactly, do we plan to get the last few planes out.
Let's just say this is a blip and this current plan makes it to the last day, Aug 31. How do we get out? How does the last C-17 or C-130 or whatever actually get off of the ground? At that point there is nobody guarding the gates, or clearing the runways, or handling the crowds. Even if the Taliban doesn't attack.
Total cluster****

How many troops were killed while Trump was in office? I'm wondering if Biden has already passed that point because I don't think there were very many from 1/17-1/21.

If you have ever wondered what Cognitive dissonance looks like, here is your example.

Didn't Biden say the other day that if anything happens to our people during this evacuation then they'd be met with swift and violent action?
This is now the single largest US casualty incident in Afghanistan since the 2012 helicopter crash.

"We made clear to the Taliban that any attack, any attack on our forces or disruption of our operations at the airport will be met with a swift and forceful response," - Joe Biden, one week ago
