It's the modern alamo.

Do you drop in the airborne and take Bagram back?

If this deterioration continues, do we need to surge our troop numbers just to get out?

Our leaders ****ed this up seven ways to sunday.
Crenshaw was on FNC earlier this morning and was calling exactly for this. Granted, that shouldn't be surprising he called for that but it might be your only option.

'Horrific' images emerging from Kabul

Sky's US correspondent Mark Stone says there are currently images we're unable to broadcast "because they're so horrific".

The images show the sewage canal area where thousands of people had been waiting outside Kabul airport, and where one of the blasts happened.

"The idea that it is just 13 people who have died, I think that will quickly become clear that the number is far, far greater," he says.

all the taliban has to do is lob a couple ordinance pieces onto the tarmac and runway every couple hours and it will shut it down.
Yeah, I'm worried about that too. One runway. A couple holes and we are stranded.
A military pilot on Bannon this morning was stressing that these airframes being utilized in the evacuations are not supposed to be used in combat settings for such expanded periods of time. He said he was surprised there had not been an accident already. If a plane crashes on the runway there, no equipment to remove the wreckage and repair the runway.

In a chilling moment he speculated that a wing could shear off, that exhausted pilots could make a mistake during in air refueling and the like.

Waiting for a few more shoes to drop.

Canceling all scheduled briefings tells me this goes farther than 4 Marines KIA. I'm thinking about the American missionaries (100) with 300 Afghan children that a 2-star 82nd Airborne General ordered them to go back outside the gate to await their charter plane. The gate he sent them to was Abbey Gate.

Six Taliban checkpoints on way to airport, and now we have a VBIED?

Come the **** on.

But the Taliban promised us peace and safety during the withdrawal - Biden

As soon as we do that though it's all bets off with the taliban which means a full pitch firefight at the airport. Again with the issue of collateral that I don't think this White House has the stones for, because at that point to keep our boys alive you start all out bombing anything that moves around the airport.

I'm going to be shocked if we don't end up with a C-17 down before it's all said and done.

I hope you are right and this is the case. Absolutely horrible day. Praying for the wounded Marines and those who have now made the ultimate sacrifice.

Tough luck to the collateral. It's over for non military people. Biden has said so. The germans and canadians have said so.

Do what it takes to get our boys home.

Yep. My concern is whatever ISIS variant we're up to now are waiting for the planes to be full of US soldiers before trying out their newfound RPGs.

For you who have the expertise and experience: can we possibly take back Bagram?

Edit: Apologies - I now see this same question and discussion is in an earlier post.

I don't know.

What I cant figure out is how, exactly, do we plan to get the last few planes out.

Let's just say this is a blip and this current plan makes it to the last day, Aug 31. How do we get out? How does the last C-17 or C-130 or whatever actually get off of the ground? At that point there is nobody guarding the gates, or clearing the runways, or handling the crowds. Even if the Taliban doesn't attack.

Total cluster****

Leave enough troops behind to evac via chopper.

There is no good way. Especially if they're still there on 8/31

come on guys, give the man some credit, he said he didn't want another Blackhawk down and he successfully avoided one. Blackhawk down had no US civilians at risk, lasted roughly one day, saw only 22 allied deaths, only had ~100 US troops at risk of being cutoff and overwhelmed and took place in a city that we never even pretended to have full military control over. The man is a genius, this situation is shaping up to be nothing like the battle of Mogadishu.

Hope that's wrong. Sky is Russian, so only slightly more credible than CNN.

It would be but your other option is to abandon 2k Marines on top of the thousands of citizens that are already doomed.

In a sane world, Biden is stepping down today and the VP is assuming control.

I realize that second option is not good at all but I have more faith in her than biden. God help us.

Bagram would be taken easily. It is in the middle of nowhere. And is not nearly the security risk.

BUT, you have everyone headed to Kabul. Bagram is 40 miles away.

No good answer here, and it could have all been avoided.

based on the responses to this I have clearly fallen victim to Poe's law and should have laid the sarcasm on a bit thicker. while i would absolutely hope this is the case, in no way do i think it is actually what is happening. We all saw what happened last time this man was in the white house and "red lines" were crossed.

Zero chance we are still there.

if the reports are true we welded the gates shut today, we're going to be pulling our guys out by or before the end of the weekend, under cover of darkness most likely.

If aerial refueling is an option, we have a MEU and a carrier nearby. Not ideal but nothing about this situation is.
