We don't know when or where that video was taken or who did the shooting. There were shots being fired all night around the airport.

What matters is it is now being spread as propaganda.

Per AlJazeera the US Deputy national security advisor just said we are sending more troops to airport over next two days. New Zealand says their evac operation may take a month. Germany wants to evac 10,000 people.

This operation is going to last a while longer.

Taliban have declared the war over. They are not seeming to be interested in more fighting at the moment. Let's hope so.

I didn't check the spreadsheet that closely, but why no C5 activity? Runway / weather and altitude / bad climb rate when fully loaded issues?

Seeing some terrible videos from WhatsApp- not sure how to post here... crowds thronging a c17 as it taxies to takeoff and then one person falling to his death... he was on the undercarriage , fell from about 400 ft

Afghan pilots flying relatively small planes/helicopters to escape Taliban. Unfortunately landing in Uzbekistan was a bad idea as they are likely just going to turn them over to the Taliban.

C-5's are doing a lot better than they were (once around 50% mission capable any given day), but the risk to a C-5 being damaged by a potmarked airfield, random bullet, or heaven forbid if it has to 'kneel' (risking hydraulic issues) to pick folks up is likely not worth it.

Plus, it is the biggest target we could put on the ramp. We aren't loading up any Abrams or heavy outsized gear, it's just Biden victims/people. The C-17 gets off the ground in a hurry (less than half the runway, and probably going out very light to refuel quickly in the air), and takes a lot less space on the ramp etc.

I'd be willing to bet you are wrong. Unless you want to count relatives the way they do; cousins/uncles etc. Most just know the economy there is going to crash again and life will be miserable (again) under the islamic theocratic caliphate.

Almost none of them have done anything resembling 'heroic' to help us battle the Taliban.

They aren't even willing to stay by the female's in their own family's side, they are running and mobbing an airport for their own interests.

But I would think our 'progressives' would be fine with the Taliban taking over anyway, since the strict gun control should limit crime/shootings as the local gun dealers close up shop/guns are confiscated from the people.

These aren't people fleeing the Taliban. They just see an opportunity for a free ticket to the West. If they really cared they would have enlisted in the Afghan army.

That said, what a cluster. How many days will it take to evac everyone and get things under control enough to get the troops out?

Not hard to get a weapon. I did patrolling in Iraq and every house was allowed an AK with two magazines. Actually did my MOS in Afghanistan and fired artillery so no first hand experience in villages and towns there. The more telling thing in the picture is that they are all men. No women or children. So even if they helped the Americans they are just abandoning their wives and children? I reiterate Cowards.
