I agree that their position appears to be subpar at best, but what TF do you expect? It's not like they've got a master set of keys to operate the parked equipment. Also, they're a quick reaction force. They don't carry C-Wire just for these instances.

A bit of clarity on the troop numbers.

Im not criticizing the troops. Just the suits that dumped them there.

Quote:

Biden's judgment as commander-in-chief is being called into question since he is on record, in damning video footage, saying that the Taliban's victory was "not inevitable." He said there would be no Saigon-style pictures of helicopters lifting off the roof of the US embassy in Kabul. That exact scenario unfolded this weekend after the US rushed to get its people out, and the Stars and Stripes was run down the flagpole as the fundamentalist militia routed by the United States in 2001, surged back into the Afghan capital.
From the CNN article linked above. Nail in coffin for Biden for 2024, imo.

So no one is willing to fight against the Taliban?

If no Afghans seem to want to fight the Taliban, why should the US?

The only way to defeat them is to crush them totally. It means going and killing them until none are left. We will never have a modern president or military with the willingness to eradicate them.

Indefinite occupation and control of Afghanistan just makes them into some far off US territory, not a sovereign nation.

After 20 years and 4 presidents we haven't eradicated the Taliban. Bush, Obama, Trump, Biden.

Same thing with the border. Politicians never want to solve or end problems. The border has been an issue since Clinton, and for 30 years Washington DC refuses to address it. They don't care about America. Washington only cares about its own power and wealth.

Not a single woman or child in that photo.

Why don't all these guys in the photo fight the Taliban for their own sovereignty if they don't like the Taliban?

Per Al Jazeera the "Kabul Airport Authority" has sent a message that all commercial flights are cancelled to prevent looting and plundering. "Do not rush to the airport."

Also say the airspace has been released to the military and are warning transit aircraft to reroute.

800 on one C-17. 40K to Ft. Bliss and some place in Wisconsin? Unreal, exactly what we didn't need in the US.

My questions during the whole thing are: how do the US servicemen get out when this is done?

Taliban still don't seem willing to try to take the airport. This all seems negotiated. Panicked civilians trapped at airport seem to be the big problem. Not sure how you deal with them other than getting them on planes and processing in neutral country.

Early on it was rumored Turkey had agreed to serve as intermediary to take over airport for transition but that was before the Taliban gained complete control. I think that is ideal situation. We'll see what gets negotiated. Our Centcom generals are directly negotiating this with Taliban leaders.
