I am cautiously hopeful that our boys will pull this off on the ground. 3,000 marines and a couple thousand more airborne troops with complete air superiority are going to be a handful for just about anyone. I understand that they would be fighing a lot of their own weapons and fighting US trained units. But we can still completely F them up if it comes right down to it.

I could see those in direct command act unilatory if necessary. It is clear that there is no help at all coming from D.C.

They will.

The taliban will not attack us forces or the airport. Now that they are in control and looking for international recognition, the best course of action is to let the westerners go and use it as a big pr campaign. They will spin it as them showing compassion and that this is a different taliban.

I don't believe they will let a few generals, judges, and leaders slip out without "sharia judgment"

I think we must be talking about two different things, maybe I misunderstood the question. We had boots on ground the whole time for security/evac. 82nd was brought in over last two days. All I'm going by is what was publicly announced.

I was arguing that you confirmed there were 3k marines on ground prior to the GRF setting down in Afghanistan. There's an IRF (immediate response force) on station in kuwait that, I assume, would've been mobilized for this Op (unless it was a heavy (armor) brigade). The GRF is typically a brigade minus (BDE(-)) which is approximately 3k-5k soldiers depending on the required strength. Post being, there are every few scenarios where 3k marines would've been thrown in prior to the GRF establishing a footprint.

According to this, half the Marines are from the 24th MEU and and the other from the SPMAGTF in Saudi Arabia. I could definitely see both of those beating the 82nd.
