C-5's are doing a lot better than they were (once around 50% mission capable any given day), but the risk to a C-5 being damaged by a potmarked airfield, random bullet, or heaven forbid if it has to 'kneel' (risking hydraulic issues) to pick folks up is likely not worth it.The Fife said:
I didn't check the spreadsheet that closely, but why no C5 activity? Runway / weather and altitude / bad climb rate when fully loaded issues?

no offense here, but fight them with what? They can't just go to the local gun store and buy a gun or ammo. Everything is Taliban control. They have three options, join them, be their ***** and do whatever they say, or die.JABQ04 said:bmks270 said:TChaney said:The scene at Kabul airport this morning -- crowds gather behind rolls of barbed wire as US soldiers stand.

I'd be willing to bet the majority of the men who are at the airport trying to escape have either helped the USA, or have relatives who have.
I'd be willing to bet you are wrong. Unless you want to count relatives the way they do; cousins/uncles etc. Most just know the economy there is going to crash again and life will be miserable (again) under the islamic theocratic caliphate.AustinCountyAg said:no offense here, but fight them with what? These aren't people fleeing the Taliban. They just see an opportunity for a free ticket to the West. If they really cared they would have enlisted in the Afghan army.AustinCountyAg said:no offense here, but fight them with what? They can't just go to the local gun store and buy a gun or ammo. there is something very eerie in these two images in the way in which they connect through a 'free fall.' both were invisible to the naked eye, except as indistinguishable dots. they gained human recognition only when they crashed against the ground with a loud thud.

That said, what a cluster. How many days will it take to evac everyone and get things under control enough to get the troops out?
Just when you think things could not look worse. Man falling 3,000 to his death trying to escape a dying country. Definitely not a good look for US.PearlJammin said:This plane ✈️ https://t.co/Myhs89Kpb8
