Turkish Airlines charter has evacuated Turkish citizens. Unclear if Turkish security forces are staying in the airport.

Thanks for the rational response and I really appreciate the perspective. It would make me feel a lot better if it was just a parent putting a cranky child in a basket for internet likes.

I checked on the tweet's poster and he doesn't appear to be clickbait. He posts infrequently and usually not in English. There's some chance it's suspicious to now tweet in English but also he's clearly capable of it, and he doesn't need to tell Afghans how bad it is.

I'm leaning towards credible and onsite. It breaks my heart.

We just can't know just from that one pic sitting here safe and comfortable in the US. It could go either way. Don't forget that this stuff DOES happen though. That extremely famous abandoned child picture in Africa is proof of that. And don't forget the actual photographer of that picture, the westerner who became famous for that picture, also left it to die after he took that photo.

It happens.

That is one point that is going to be "lost" I am sure. Everything that is happening right now in Kabul is at the behest of the Taliban. They are letting us go and we are in control of absolutely nothing aside from maybe the firing arc distance of our dudes on the ground right now and even that is because the Taliban is deciding to not contest that.

They are controlling both the event and narrative right now and frankly, making us look like absolute *****es to the world. And yes, that matters a lot on the world stage.

Probably low.

Lots of State Department true believers and their families.

I saw that just between NYT, WSJ, WP they have a little north of 300 staff, journalists, photographers, and families there.

I saw one inbound to CHS a couple of hours ago. While not unheard of they're still pretty rare here.

Lots of outbound C-17 activity yesterday too but there's a bunch stationed at the AFB. Today has been a lot lighter.

To be fair, being an apparent Afghan child, it might have taken him 5 seconds or so.

Thanks....I was wondering how we could safely remove all our forces. Eventually perimeter defenses would have to withdraw to get on transports.
