The efficacy of the vaccines are still high.

So how is he a threat to them? Is he going to kill vaccinated people? It's a bad argument to say how am I going to give you the virus. The argument should be, why are you worried about me giving you essentially a cold if you are vaccinated?

Our medical community and responsible people are concerned about viral spread and mutation in addition to direct risk of injury or death.

Your argument is illogical because it is based on a false premise.

No, it isn't. Mutation into what? What coronavirus has mutated into a more virulent form? Even when we didn't have the help of a vaccine for all of them when they were novel hundreds if not thousands of years ago?

This is turning into a cold for immune people. Just face it. Further mutations are going to get less and less deadly. Vaccines and natural immunity will continue to outpace it, just like we have every single coronavirus and/or flu / respiratory illness in human history.

This is about compliance, and I am firm believer in the vaccines and took it months ago.

Just tell your boss that he will need someone to run the office if everyone else gets a brain tumor next year from the vaccine. So he should thank you for being willing to step up and and do what is best for the company and the office.

There have been thousands of mutations upon damn near a billion worldwide cases. NONE have broken through to kill vaccinated and/or naturally immune people at anywhere near as high a rate as the first time around.

None in human history have, either.

But sure, it's going to happen any minute now.

And there are plenty in the medical community that disagree, too. They are typically shut up quickly and ignored.

There actually isn't a lot of published that delta is more deadly. We have anecdotal claims. But nothing definitive. In addition virtually all deaths from delta are to the unvaccinated.

Yes, there isn't a lot published on Delta. One early study assessing the risk of hospital admission in Scotland reported that hospitalization is twice as likely in unvaccinated individuals with Delta than in unvaccinated individuals with Alpha.

By the way, how effective is natural antibodies developed within those of us who have had Covid ?

Everything suggests is delta is more transmissible. Nothing suggest more deadly/severe.

None of this is occurring in vaccinated or previously infected individuals at any kind of worrisome level.

Vaccinated doesn't mean you can't get it, it's just means you're much less likely.

So if someone who had it had a 5% chance of giving it someone else before, they'd probably give it to 5 out of every 100 people they met. Those 5 would do the same. Now if those 100 people are vaccinated and the vaccine is 80% effective, they're likely to now only give it to 1 person. The growth rates of infections from a probability standpoint are much more manageable and infections peter out faster.

Now if only 50% of those 100 are vaccinated, then that person is likely passing it onto 3. Better than 5, but definitely not ideal.
We've had decades to study the flu and how it works and transmits. In the best years, the flu vaccine is only 50% effective for those who take it and most years 40-45%. In some years, it's only 35% effective. So with all that history and opportunity to get the flu vaccine right, why should anyone believe they magically got a novel vaccine for a novel virus's 80% effective much less the 95% they originally claimed? That's the red herring.
Thomas Jefferson: "When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." "I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery."

Apples to oranges much?

A) Viral biology is quite different from family to family. We have been waiting 40 years for an HIV vaccine and, yeah, still waiting.

B) Vaccine immunologists (and I know several, cf. plus sign above) are aware that apart from biological considerations (i.e., the somewhat unpredictable nature of flu variants from year to year), multiple doses of flu vaccine and more potent adjuvants would yield a better immune response to vaccination. This has to be balanced against the downsides of yokels bleating that the flu vaccine "gave them the flu" because they felt sick afterwards and general unwillingness to comply with a complex regimen for a disease that rarely causes death.

C) You are comparing dissimilar metrics for the COVID-19 vaccine to flu vaccination, e.g., total immunity (the "40-45%" effectiveness of flu vaccine) versus immunity from severe, life-threatening disease (appears to be about 97% for COVID vaccination, with many of the breakthrough severe cases occurring in people with risk factors for poor vaccine response.

Both matter to some extent, particularly from an economic perspective, but they are simply not comparable.

D) The idea that all vaccines are only somewhat effective is not even good nonsense. How many smallpox cases have there been in your community this year?
