And the magic fairy gave them POWER to do zoom calls with those Texans!!!
That's a lot of electricity being used for those calls during a time when we are asked to conserve energy. Not good optics.
Most were not zoom calls. They asked for volunteers to call and check on senior citizens. Not sure how anyone can be honest with themselves and say that's a bad idea.
I checked on my elderly neighbors.

I don't need a bunch of SJWs calling me and telling me to do so.

How miserable is your life, if you have to look to a politician for compassion

Same.
And i know a bunch of others that did as well. It's what normal people do.
Normal people don't make a big hoopla about being compassionate and helping others.

Beto can learn a lot from Trump in this regard.

He can be out in the community. Checking on those in need. He has influence to make things happen. This shows a complete lack of awareness or a lack of compassion. He can help set-up calling lists to check on senior citizens. He can help communicate critical information. He could use in influence to help the state.

I realize he won't be able to pass national legislation quickly enough to make an impact but IMO being elected senator you have a greater responsibility than just passing legislation. Your state deserves the influential power you hold to try and help them. Get on the phones with other senators/ governors to ask for assistance they can send.
Shouldn't that be Abbott's job?

Cruz doesn't know what specifics the state needs.

He can call up Josh Hawley and what? We send them bottles of water and gooey butter cake?

Abbott's job would include but also be much more than that. Cruz has the influence to help communities in need. There is plenty of opportunity in our large state to help and check on people.

And Hawley is from Missouri but talking to state leaders/ governors/ etc from other states is something Cruz could do.

If you want to deflect and defend him then ok. It's also ok to admit people you vote for make mistakes. Doesn't mean they suck overall.
Exactly what is there to make you so sure that a United States Senator has not been in touch with other political leaders and/or Fed agencies at this point?

I just took back a friend to his house after keeping him in my home for 3 days. I have taken firewood and water from our house to three different homes on the other side of town. I have the right to speak on this with as much as leftists preach to others about things, I actually DO things.

With that being said if the Texas US Senate election was today, I'd stand in the 20 degree cold to vote for Ted Cruz again. He's been a great senator for our state and one of the most quick witted orators this country has.

I agree Cruz is a gifted orator and he is uniquely capable on the debate stage. I think that's why he was so well suited as Solicitor General, he can debate the issue and defend his client no matter whether the position is defensible.

But for me, I don't want to defend the indefensible. I'm not the Solicitor General. I don't want to defend behavior I would never do myself. It's a basic foundational matter of character in a leader to just show up when you need to be there even if you don't need to do anything. I've been blessed with really good leaders in my career who set the example to stay late if the team needed to stay late or work weekends to get a job done. How is that not an obvious instinct? Do elected officials just think they're above that?

Unfortunately, that's politics. Elected officials defend poor behavior all the time. As does the media.

I feel like politicians such as Ted Cruz or Rand Paul do this to a much lesser extent than most in DC. So they're my gauge for the kind of leaders I want making policy.

Considering the alternative, I feel good about that.

Leadership comes in many different ways. I used to manage a 24/6 operation at my old company and would often have to put in 16+ hour days to meet our customer's need, and do you know who I didn't want there after hours not adding value and getting in the way? The VP of my location who knew nothing about my operation, or anyone else under him who also knew nothing of my operation. If I needed any of them, I had their phone numbers and could call for support.

Classic leftists. Anytime there is a problem in the world they run to the government, they ask, "How can the government fix the problem?" And in the meantime the government's power gets bigger and our freedoms get smaller. They expect the government to be their father, mother and God. This government worship is sickening, leftists.

this about sums it up. sensible leadership is of secondary importance, all you gotta do to be a good republican senator is own the libs.

rafael realized a long time ago that as long as he punches down at leftists on Twitter and rolls over for trump and his base, they'll break their backs defending him from the evil leftists when he does boneheaded stuff like go on vacation while his state is in crisis.
