Gotta wonder if next flight is full orbital with Starlink payload.
If it's around Christmas I hope they fill it with fruitcake.

The big boom was still somewhat exciting to watch.

It was plenty loud back in port isabel!
Good viewing from there?

Really good. I think I'm something like 5.1 miles from the pad.
I gambled before the launch date was set and booked a place down there starting Thursday..just missed it.

I'm only an hour away so I get here like 10 minutes before launch.

Part of the test was to bring the booster in more aggressively. I wonder if they tested to "failure," and now they have more data on the limits of the vehicle. Let's see if the upper stage makes it.

There was some lower level wind shear too. Way more wind than last time. Might very been a combo, who knows.

Lucky you.

True. Friend has a place on the point.

Post launch party!

Also something different about this Starship is that they did not use the extra ablative material that they used on the last one. It's basically an older heat shield design. They actually removed 2000 heat shield tiles.

Interesting. We know how political this industry is. Maybe they felt some increased pressure to launch with Trump, etc. on site. Regardless, they have all but proven this concept as viable. Incredible work by the SpaceX team.

This launch and changes to the vehicle were decided upon long before Trump. Everything they do is for a specific reason to improve future iterations, not political optics.

My guess...
If winds were higher they were still within launch limits.
If anything it would be an additional data point.

This is also the last launch of Starship V2. Flaps move leeward and I think it gets longer for flight 7.

Anyone know the logistics of crossing into Mexico and watching from there? Send getting the sun at your back might get better views for afternoon launches

They said on the broadcast the next versions flaps are also smaller and they did confirm, as you said, the ship will get longer making room for ~25% more fuel.

Probably January. I think the cadence was a little sped up because flight 5 was delayed by the FAA. I'd guess somewhere around the middle of the month, though inauguration day or January 6th would be hilarious.

NSF were saying the tower was GO, but booster was NO GO. Hopefully we find out.

I know a guy from Brownsville and he owns property in Matamoros. He's a peculiar dude, but enjoyable to talk to and all about Starship. I asked him why he didn't go to Bagdad and watch a launch since he's real comfortable in Mex. He said he was going to do just that.

It can't be hard. HWY2 takes you all the way to the beach and then there's about 8 miles up to the mouth of the river. I'll find out if he did it and report back.

ETA - my parents were driving home from San Antonio and saw the contrail from Georgewest. So all of south Texas could have see a little something today.

They did and it was successful. Everything about this launch was a smashing success except for the decision not to catch.

Is it just me or is there a big wrinkle in the hull?
I rewatched the video and skipped through, and there was definitely warping of the steel shell going on.

The next Starship is the next generation version. They may want to successfully launch that at least once before adding payload.

These people have never done anything of substance in their lives to come close to "failure."

The replies made me dumber. It's hard to believe these people walk among us.

These stupid "journalists" really think they are catching these guys with some kind of gotcha. Like the jalopnik guy last week that thought Elon didn't know about the latency created by speed of light transmissions to Mars...

It's depressing, isn't it? And the media types have so much influence on the masses and tell them how to think.

If Elon gave me a one way ticket to Mars, I'd probably go just to get off the planet with these people.

Even the original premiss is wrong, it has been only a little over a month since the launch of Ship 5. Heck if the FAA had its way that might still be waiting on that launch.
