Part of the test was to bring the booster in more aggressively. I wonder if they tested to "failure," and now they have more data on the limits of the vehicle. Let's see if the upper stage makes it.

Per the NASASpaceflight nerds their contingency seems to be to try to open the vents. If not, they describe a ballistic approach to opening the vessel to make sure it is safe.

Starship is peak heating - on the exterior of the ship. In the engine compartment camera, though, we see ice crystal formations - that are just feet away from that plasma.

It really wouldn't surprise me if they don't go get it. They recovered the engines I believe from flight 4.

Also something different about this Starship is that they did not use the extra ablative material that they used on the last one. It's basically an older heat shield design. They actually removed 2000 heat shield tiles.

NSF was speculating that due to the damage to the communication rod on top of the catch tower is why they diverted. Saw some shots that it looked like it was leaning.

Per the nerds, SpaceX is going to be very aggressive with this angle of attack to stretch the limits of the ship and have already pre-warned it may not survive.
