it was one of the great trips ever. first ever shuttle launch. grandfather got us VIP treatment. I was about 12 and waded out into the bay to be the closest exposed human to the launch. still nearly 3 miles IIRC. Without binocs the shuttle was only about an inch tall. But it was epic, and the thrill of it did not disappoint, and neither did the noise, heat and launch cloud.PJYoung said:cbr said:Pics look really close. I took the pics and from where I was standing I measured roughly 5.1 miles. The zoom on the galaxy 22 ultra is good.

Also re the environmental concerns: we have all these damn snowy plovers out here that they go so far as shutting the beaches down for the summer. That has no effect on the launch cadence. Hopefully whatever the concerns in the valley are quickly dismissed.

Here's his discussion before the WDR. Discusses some of the GSE challenges around 42 minutes (Zack Golden asked the question). They had attempted/will make a methane production facility, nearby, which will decrease the need to truck so much methane specifically in, and the ground side stuff has to really be reliable/robust to work toward anything close to the cadence they hope to some day hit. Originally they were going to drill for methane too locally, but I guess they gave up on that.
So I'm 100% going Thursday if launch is likely. Leaving tomorrow morning. What are the odds it goes off and if so, what time of day?

Well, it looks like my camping trip just turned into a 5 day trip here at Isla Blanca Park!
If you don't mind staying in a tent, it's $20 a night and there are some spots still left open. Weather is the best it can be for South Texas camping. A bit windy...but nice out here for sure.

The best part about the spot is that it is right at the entrance of the park. At 3:30 AM on Monday I was 10th in line to get into the park with our own lane in there...
