Interesting perspective. Phillip Johnston re-tweeted this.

SPCX is at $123 right now, up around 8 percent today. I anticipate a drop when the shares open up more this month but I am dubious about forecasts that it will plummet into the 70's etc. at this point.

Also saw pecan Island in LA as a launch point essentially confirmed. I could see them putting 4 launch towers there over time.

I'm unsurprised to see some 'get in' buying ahead of the first earnings report later today. What that report says probably drives things hard one way or the other tomorrow.

I don't disagree. A ton of speculative buying/selling. Frankly, if I had real money in it I'd probably sell today.

Hopefully the public company bit makes them disclose more plans/challenges in advance/greater transparency, just from the fan boy section.

The counter to that is that SPCX is still, and will be, quite dependent on classified/Space Command for a lot of revenue (Starshield, AMTI etc). This is part of the reason for the near-cancellation of the E-7 Wedgetail E-3 replacement; imagery via RF etc. is going to drive NRO/classified stuff moving forward with an initial capability in 2028. It's 'cool' but also going to lead to a lot of 'grey' information for stock holders imho.

Earnings grew 92%, EBITDA growing at 2x the rate losses are shrinking. Stock immediately lost 9% in after hours trading.

Lot of money to be made in there.

Cost down and capacity increase for Starlink is going to make that a very profitable business.

This won't happen like she's saying, assuming AST Spacemobile gets up the remaining 30 or so of their 45 satellites by 2028. And AST has some advantages over them from a technological standpoint. But they will both print money with what each is doing with orbital communications.

But ATT, TMobile, and Verizon wont have any dead spots either.

I have so many questions about this post. Mostly...What?

AST's tiny constellation, SpaceX somehow involved and losing, terrestrial carriers no longer have dead zones...

Stock is way down in pre-market but it does look like the AI play will pay off more quickly for them than many thought.

Go spend about 30 minutes reading about AST and their relationship to the mobile carriers. Well worth the time. Long story short, them and Spacex will both be winners in the mobile communications space. AST has giant satellites and they only need 45 in orbit to provide the US and Japan with high speed broadband direct to all currently existing cell phones with no modification needed (their current advantage over Spacex). AST will split 50/50 with the carriers revenue from over 3 billion subscribers worldwide when they all tack on a fee for the satellite service. There will be no more dead zones. You will be able to stream high speed from anywhere with no dead spots. Worldwide coverage will come after they get the US and Japan up and going.

Enjoy the reading. I have spent hours upon hours learning about what they are doing just to see if it was worth investing in.

Falcon 9 just launched another batch of 3 AST satellites this morning.

It wasn't just the EPA etc. either. Xiden admin. hated starlink/Musk so much they wouldn't even support precious Kiev, SPCX had to go through the Canadians.

Absolutely idiotic, all about politics and grudges/vendettas.

The book report thing is a little undersold. Basically all land above water along Boca Chica Highway was used during the Mex-American War.

Now... what's still significant that is/was there - almost assuredly nothing but there are LOTS of artifacts from that "occupation" all around the SpaceX facility.

Grain of salt for sure... But the tiles looked dramatically better. Hopefully recovery shows them even more.

I think the real information that will settle that debate is what happens the 2nd time they fly a ship with mostly the same tiles. They obviously have a few tiles they would have needed to replace on Ship 40 if it had been caught and they wanted to refly, but what is the condition of the ones that don't need replacement and how well will they hold up to a 2nd re-entry?

If they just need to replace a few errant tiles before every reflight it is not a big deal. But if they find the main body of the tiles can only survive 2-3 launches before needing replacement, then it will be back to the drawing board.

Well...maybe. If, as I believe SpaceX is intending, you have over a dozen Starships on the flight line, that buys you some time to replace the tiles on one while you fly the other 11. If you can implement automation to that process, you could probably make that turnaround pretty quick.

Yeah, they will still be able to keep flying another ship. But having to replace thousands of tiles instead of a dozen or so is a much longer delay in being able to refly the same ship. Just peeling the old ones off without damaging the underlying ship skin is something that probably wouldn't be easy. Certainly not an insurmountable issue, but one that they will learn a lot about after the first time they fly a ship for the 2nd time.
nortex97
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The engines are the real issue. They can build and cryo test etc. ships in a hurry, but at some point Raptor production and testing becomes a problem. Still, they've made over 180 raptor 3's to date I think so maybe they 'have a plan' of course to handle the ramp.

So I guess we won the moon race.

They've completely replaced all tiles in 2 weeks. Not they they would need to replace all tiles at once, but they can. With a few ships ready to go, that's fast enough.

Replace? Or place? I assume it is more complex to pull the old ones off and condition the surface to add new ones back on versus just adding new tiles to a virgin ship.

Little does anyone know but Elon just landed a fully ready robot army on the moon. They will start taking apart the rocket that landed not crashed and be ready for the next ones to land.

It's been my pipe dream that, that scenario is how refined but raw building materials get to the moon.

Land 30-100 boosters on the surface and then have autonomous robots disassemble them and then build a hard structure and flat landing pad.

Fair enough, though that was from a ship that had not flown through reentry. Not sure if that would make much difference in the timeframe or not. Two weeks is certainly better than months, but if you are trying to fly every day and having to strip a ship completely every few flights, you will need a lot of bay space for ships whose tiles are being refurbished. Hopefully they will find the tiles are more robust to repeated flights than that and occasional piecemeal replacements will be all that is needed from flight to flight.

ELON! What's your deal lately? That video is fake. The booster hit Einstein crater which is right on the limb of the moon. That video shows the booster hitting on the terminator between lunar day and night. The moon is currently in the 3rd quarter so the terminator doesn't currently line up with the limb of the moon.

Neat video/update on Terafab.
Quote:

Texas has become central to our operations through Starbase, Bastrop, and McGregor, thanks to its commitment to innovation, manufacturing, and American leadership. SpaceX's growing Texas footprint alone has already generated more than 56,000 direct and indirect jobs, over $28 billion in estimated economic impact since 2024, and hundreds of millions in indirect tax revenue since 2024.

The initial phase of Terafab is estimated to require approximately $16.8 billion in capital investments from SpaceX and Tesla, with potential future expansion phases bringing total investment much higher. This facility will employ at least 3,000 people, many of whom will be from Grimes and nearby Brazos County continuing the trend of our other Texas sites where between 60% and 80% of new hires are local residents.

Grimes County offers strategic advantages for long-term industrial investment, including infrastructure access, available land, and proximity to major Texas markets. This project represents a significant opportunity for skilled trades, construction employment, suppliers and contractors, and long-term technical workforce development. We intend to work with local schools and workforce partners to help create pathways for future employment opportunities, responding to the unique needs of each community.

SpaceX and Tesla also take our role as being good stewards of the environment seriously. The Terafab site is committing to the use of Gibbons Creek Reservoir water for industrial operations rather than local groundwater; planned on-site wastewater treatment facilities; water reuse and conservation efforts; compliance with all applicable environmental and pollution control laws; and management of hazardous materials, chemicals, and industrial byproducts in accordance with all applicable regulationswhile striving to exceed them.
