Waiting to get pad 1 ready will take too long. I thought SpaceX had a sense of urgency in getting starship operational.

They can still launch from pad 2 to keep working through their operational flights to work up to orbital flights. But trying a catch and potentially damaging pad 2 before pad 1 is ready later this year means potentially losing the ability to launch anything until they fix whatever they break. Smarter to wait for the catch attempts until pad 1 is available.

Yes, I get it. Remember they did do some catches on Pad 1 when there was no Pad 2.

If they're going to wait for Pad 1, I hope they move on to orbit and orbital refueling asap and then just continue with the precision ocean landings. I don't want to see Starship fail to be ready for HLS flights.

I was primarily thinking from a catch standpoint. Booster could RTLS at Boca Chica and ship could deorbit to KSC 39A.

It looks like they can ship and receive via the port of Brownsville

Yeah, I was talking about the thing that looks like a little airport utility cart/truck at the far left. I assume if the guys on Top Gear couldn't kill it, it would work fine on the moon.

Is that really something they want to do right now though? If they are trying to up the flight cadence, catching at the Cape and then having to ship it back to Starbase to launch again seems cludgy. I also suspect that NASA and FAA are going to want them to prove out the catch capability at Starbase before they clear them to attempt it coming back in over Florida.

Absolutely non -optimal. Vehicle failure in reentry would be over Texas for a Florida catch, think Challenger... Just bouncing an idea around while construction advances on all of their facilities.

Do we know if any of the work at 39A or even retrofits on Pad 1 were waiting for confirmation or full launch on Pad2 ?

yup. they could have rolled into a massively cool show in the Expanse vein but instead decided to go the hot garbage route. I've lost all interest and haven't watched it for several weeks.

I'm not very familiar with their launch complex facilities, but I'd bet they just lost the place they'd have gone from.

One of the two adjacent towers appears not to be there after the fireball cleared. I'm surprised to see the spot lights are still operating after. Gonna be a major rebuild is my guess as that was much more energy than the Starship 36 RUD last June at Massey's.

Large plume of smoke coming from the vicinity of the adjacent hangar that has their only other booster in it. Not clear if smoke is the hangar burning or something external on the other side.

Not sure how far away my friends buddy is but this is what he said

Bloody hell I did. About 30 minutes ago. It was super wired. Was walking in kitchen and heard a weird loud noise but not like an explosion. More like an implosion. Felt like my house was being sucked into something for just a few seconds. Made me shudder though. It it on tv or anything????
