Brauny's Best: Highlighting top high school performances from Week 1
We're back.
Football has returned to the Friday Night Lights of the Lone Star State, and with that, I will continue our weekly breakdowns of top performances across Texas and beyond.
Texas A&M's 2027 Class
San Antonio Brandeis ATH Hakim Frampton
- 2 rushes, 8 yards
- 2 catches, 17 yards, 1 touchdown
- 2 interceptions
While there may have been some more gaudy statistical nights turned in by future Aggies, I chose Frampton because it was his first action as a Texas high school football player after moving to San Antonio from Arkansas during the offseason. He also jumped in headfirst as San Antonio Brandeis kicked off their 2026 campaign against rivals San Antonio O'Connor in front of a packed house in the Alamo City. Frampton delivered on the big stage and helped propel the Broncos to a 35-28 victory. I also love that the stat line reveals the type of player he is and why we continue to list him as an athlete. As the season progresses, he'll have nights where his offensive numbers make many people ponder a future on that side of the ball in Aggieland. For now, those two interceptions have to make Mike Elko and Bryant Gross-Armiento smile.
State of Texas
2029 Stephenville WR Caden Monk
- 11 catches, 242 yards, 1 touchdown
Well, it appears Stephenville has another up-and-coming receiver ready to burst onto the recruiting scene. The sophomore has already reeled in a pair of in-state offers from Baylor and Texas Tech. That list will undoubtedly blossom throughout the season, especially if he continues producing eye-popping stat lines like he did last Friday night vs. Midlothian Heritage. I don't see why he wouldn't either. After all, he did go for 912 yards on 52 receptions last year as a freshman. He already has the physical box checked at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, so there won't be many "if he gets bigger" conversations that are semi-present with young receivers. He's definitely a name to keep an eye on if you're looking for stock-up players across the state this season. Also, I scrubbed the internet, and amazingly, there's no video or highlights up yet. If they get added, we'll put them below his stat line above.

Inglewood (CA) DT Myels Smith

One of the more difficult aspects of Texas A&M's national recruiting initiatives is that we won't have many opportunities to see these kids play live. When I saw that Inglewood High School was flying to the state capital to take on Austin Westlake, I immediately requested media credentials. Smith made sure that anticipatory excitement was well-founded. He delivered a wrecking-ball performance against one of the top high school programs in the state. He displayed significant power and short-area quickness, consistently splitting double teams and re-establishing the line of scrimmage. On a different night, he might have had as many as five sacks. Watching a kid of his stature move with so much leverage and lateral ability was a treat. The Aggies have themselves a real player headed to College Station.
