Governor Abbott has issued a new order that anyone flying in from NY/NJ will be required to self quarantine for 14 days.

This comes on the recommendation from Dr. Fauci and Dr. Brix.

This will also apply to people coming from New Orleans.

DPS will run this, and anyone flying in from those areas will have to fill out a form upon arrival, which will list where they will be and DPS will keep checking on them for the 14 days or if they leave Texas before that time.

The number of cases (or deaths) is essentially a logistic curve. The derivative a logistic curve is a Gaussian (bell curve) distribution. That is, the daily number of cases (or deaths) will look like a bell curve when this is over. Look at the plot of daily case or daily deaths for China and they look like a bell curve.

I'm looking for daily cases to reach the peak of the bell curve and start coming back down in order to identify the inflection or midway point.

Yeah. I'm most interested in how fast things fall once preventative measures are in place.

It's rather positive that our peak rate is currently about half of what Italy was and we are now entering a time period where most of the major hotspots have been in a "shelter in place" for an extended period of time.

The problem I have with the daily cases is that we really don't have good enough information (imo) to make it usable. If we had the amount of test available each day, maybe you could extrapolate an estimate for real numbers, but I think we will see increases in cases simply because of increases in test availability and that we may peak long before the data says we have.

Is there anywhere that is still putting out good "outside of China" data?

Look at it this way:

Italy had its first case around 1.3 months ago (2/15/20) and they began a lock down in early March (~2 weeks after spread began). Under those conditions, Italy's cases are at 80K

In China by early February, the virus had been spreading for about 2 months (start around 12/9/19) and lockdown measures only began around two weeks prior to this report (~6 weeks after spread began). Under those conditions, China had 28K cases,

I don't believe that China with looser controls had 35% the number of cases as Italy. 150K cases seems more likely.

China actively encouraged large gatherings for the new year to get to herd immunity.

That # at 2/5 continued to grow, but probably did eventually slowed after group immunity was achieved.

That's the real reason they are back to work, id bet a large portion of the population already got the disease.

That's not how I recall. I'm pretty sure China shut everything down before the Lunar new year, and remained shut for extra time after it.

The new year is like their Christmas. It ends up being ~1-2 weeks of travel and festivities. They canceled the "day of" but the people had been traveling and celebrating for several days.

Ok. But then they put strict controls in place around the country after that. Pretty sure what you're saying is not true.

There are major social gatherings and travel in the lead up to CNY. The damage was already done.
